Hollis celebrates AORC win as Roberts takes final round

    August 17, 2008

Yamaha’s Chris Hollis put in a solid ride at round 12 of the Yamaha Australian Off-Road Championship (AORC)
today on the NSW South Coast – once today’s racing was finished Hollis “felt comfortable” celebrating his
Outright win of the series with his teammates.

Hollis, 24, from Wauchope, wrapped up the 2008 Australian Off-Road Championship and Yamaha
Championship Enduro 2 class yesterday with one round to spare.

Yamaha stamped its dominance on this year’s AORC, with ‘Blue Riders’ winning five out of the six championship
    classes.

“I am really happy to have won this championship, I set out at the beginning of the year to win the Australian Four
Day Enduro and the AORC and I’ve done that, so I’m really stoked,” Hollis said.

“I’d just like to say a huge thank you to Yamaha and the Ballard’s Yamaha Off-Road Team, their support this year
    has been unreal.”

Hollis finished today in 5th Outright, 59 seconds behind round 12 winner, GHR Honda Racing’s AJ Roberts (from
    Bribie Island, Queensland).

Roberts also won yesterday’s round Outright and said he had “just given it his all” this weekend.

“I have to hand it to Chris, he rode really well this year… I wish I hadn’t broken my leg at the beginning of the
season, I think if I hadn’t things would have been different for me,” Roberts said.

“I’ll be back next year and gunning to get back the number 1 plate.”

Roberts had won the championship every year since inception in 2005.

Hollis’s teammate, Jarrod Bewley, wrapped up the 3rd Outright podium spot, a mere four points behind Roberts.

Gippsland (VIC) racer Peter Boyle finished the series in 4th Outright and laid claim to his second Australian title
of the year, winning the Motul Championship E1 Class.

Motorex KTM Off-Road Racing Team’s Ben Kearney (from Picton, NSW) put in his best performance of the year
today, coming 2nd Outright to Roberts.

Kearney finished the series in 5th Outright and 2nd in the E1 class.

Kearney’s teammate and team manager. Brad ‘Wonka’ Williscroft claimed 6th Outright, followed by 18-year-old
privateer racer Josh Green (from Port Stephens, NSW), in 7th.

Christensen’s Yamaha Off-Road Team’s Blake Hore (from Officer, Victoria) wrapped up 8th Outright, with fellow
Victorian Jehi Willis (Husqvarna Racing Team) in 9th.

The closest class battle in this year’s championship classes was waged for the CTi2 Championship E3 title, which
was won by Yamaha’s Kirk Hutton by one-point over Husaberg’s Adam Lees.

Hutton also rounded out the AORC’s top-10 Outright.

Yamaha also took the titles in the remaining championship divisions, with Alison Parker winning Incite Graphic’s
Championship Women’s, Geoff Ballard taking the win in Ferodo Championship Masters and Stuart Bennett winning
    O’Neal Championship Veterans.

In Experts, Western Australian and Yamaha racer Matt Gangell took the win in AXO Expert Enduro 2/3. Brendan
Alcock won Leatt Brace Expert Enduro 1.

UFO Clubman Enduro 1 was won by Jake Reading followed by Kawasaki racer Cameron Taylor. The class honours
in Belray Clubman Enduro 2/3 were taken by Christopher Cash.

    Wayne Winston won Clubman Veteran.

Young gun Benjamen Burrell, of the Ballard’s Yamaha Off-Road Team, was the fastest Junior, winning both
Renthal Junior Lites and Junior Outright. South Australian Rhyce Ahola (SA Dirt Bikes) placed 2nd to Burrell in both.

AORC organiser Phil Sargent said he wanted to thank everyone who was involved in this year’s series, from
riders to officials and helpers, for making this year’s AORC “such a success”.

He also wanted to extend a huge thank you to all of the “fantastic” sponsors, “without whom the AORC wouldn’t
    be possible.”
