OK Nigel and RiderX you will be good at this…..
Emergency trail side repairs, we have all seen them,, you know a zip tie will fix a ton of things but other things can be used as well. Tell us what you have done or seen.
    Here is my first offering….
A spark plug has the same thread as a XR sump plug.
I saw Crippy using bits of stick for bash plate spacers the other day.
More to come as I think of them.. how about offering a few of your own?
Maybe it is a tool you made for that special job. whatever…tell us about it
I might have a prize for the best offering.

I once travelled 5 hours for a trail ride, when I got there I realised I hadnt installed my airfilter, the cage and bolt was still there,so we made up a filter with a t shirt and a new chux cloth that had been soaked in cooking oil,That bike a 85 KTM500MXC was also sporting a american dime araldited in the front master cylinder sight glass, thanx Rick

Nah, I got nuthin’! I do all my good stuff on the bike in the shed, and not on the trail. About all I have done is the old trick of welding some cut down sockets for the axles, onto the ends of some tyre levers. I was once gonna make some sub tanks for the front suspension, but couldn’t scrounge any airline fittings or nylon tubing from anyone.
I do what I think are small improvements to existing stuff, and make stuff myself, as I have no money to buy it. ie muffler

Maybe one day I will actually get out and do some riding. Just for you Mick, I might even have a crash or two and break something, so I can use this faulty brain of mine to solve the problem using some “bush mechanic” skills.

Necessity is the mother of all invention and that is what this thread is about, getting the bike home or an ingenious fix so you can ride.

Crippy managed to get a XR250 front wheel onto a Husaberg that had smashed it’s rim in the Cells river region, so as to get it out to a trailer. Zip ties were used on that occasion, maybe he could fill us in on the details.

I made a XR600 rear wheel bearing retainer removing tool out of
Some threaded bar and a pedal off a broken lift stand.
