Where do I start?
Weather was terrible, fog, mist, cold. Then I turned up at the Zig Zag and found that Tiny isn’t and TB wasn’t wearing that popular polkadot jersey!!
Nah, just kidding. Although Lithgow turned on it’s usual weather, it’s perfect for riding in.
All up 5 riders turned out on short notice. Everyone looked the goods so they were led straight into the single track. At the bottom of a hill that usually sucks some riders in I learn one of the lads is brand-new shiney and it’s decided it would not be advisable to do that to him. The day was dedicated to nice easy single track interspersed with a visit to the Lost City and the valiant leader becoming geographically challenged on more than one occassion! (It’s my ride! I can go around in as many circles as I like!)
Pulled up stumps near lunch time. I have no pics and ride reports are useless without them. Someone must have some.
Beaut group to ride with, those old blokes pushing big bikes through the tight stuff is scary, I don’t know how they do it!
Big thanks to Tiny who rode sweep all day and got to see all the action up close. (I won’t mention the stylish wheelie if you won’t;) ) By the end, the young lad (I’m awful with names) was punting along quite nicely thankyou very much, and not looking nearly as crappy as he was in the morning which left the crew cruising along nicely with few stops.
Leading a ride scares the sh1t outta me, always worried I’ll head on with some tool coming the other way or getting a group of angry smelly men completely lost…thankfully, neither happened today! (We did start with 5 riders didn’t we?)

November 2, 2008 at 9:36 am #111305Clarence ride report 2/11/08
The alarm went of at 6.15 I rolled over the find I had the king bed to myself, thought that’s strange she was there when I went to bed at 2am, quick walk found her asleep with the young bloke, reckoned I was snoring, I mean yes I had averaged about 4 hrs sleep a night for the last week through no fault of mine, the 2am was as sober as a judge. What does this have to do with the Clarence ride report TB you idiot I can hear you ask, well later it will be as clear as mud.
Jesus how long will it take to get there I thought, lack of sleep told me to get going, in the car, oh its raining and foggy, god I am tired. Quick pass this car, quick pass that car, I am going to be late! Need a pie, pie shop and a red bull, hurry up!
OMG I am ten minutes away and realised I have chucked a Tiny!!!!!
I am ten minutes away at 7.25am for am 8.30am start! DOH! Quick U turn and went to Mt Victoria truck stop for a truckies coffee and it was good and I don’t drink coffee, also meet some dudes going riding, handed out the web address got a paper and travelled to the Zig Zag railway got the paper out settled in to wait, up turns Tiny coming the wrong down the road, he got there before me still and had been for a look see!
Ok we did the intros, Scotty, Shane-VOR, Tiny, Tiny’s mate (can’t remember his name sorry mate) and myself. After that was done we travelled up the road a short distance parked and suited up, Shane kicked the VOR into life with a back to front kick start set up, different and one of the different things I was to notice about the VOR today like the power delivery just so smooth.
Shane led us straight into it, something like 10 metres and into the single line and it was sweet to be back into it after last weeks ride. Tiny’s mate had a couple a dramas first up but once that was sorted we got going, Shane had come back to check and I passed him and came across Scotty at Shane’s last man standing downhill. We turned around and travelled along some sweet twin trail and over to some great track and some sweet hill climbs, all the hills could be done, no stupid impossible stuff, just hills with enough challenge to get you going. We ended up at the lost city, which is a stone out crop I guess that has been named the lost city and was really cool considering the fog around, at times it was so thick.
We hooked into the single trail, by this time Tiny’s mate (sorry again) had slowed his dirt naps and was going good so it was Scotty’s turn and for once I was there to see it. We got into some lush sweet 2nd gear single line and the pace was getting quicker I had only minutes before been hassling Scotty by pulling the clutch in the 90 degree style corners and was revving the big 650 to tighten the screws but he kept his mind on the job and then because I was so close, when we hit the big muddy puddle that was always going to happen I copped the whole thing ha ha lol. Back into it and we had closed up on Shane so Scotty was in the middle and we headed down the gully, around a left hander and the track split around a bush, nice ruts pretty deep ruts but not a problem unless you decide at the last minute to change lines, I could see it happening and was screaming to myself NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO and so Scotty ate it hard. That would normally be that, except I was about 2 metres of his arse and he was crashing in front down hill, deep ruts and I was on the gas having picked my line, FAARRRRRRRKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!! I locked the BRP up, first thought I am going to drill him hard, oh hang on its stopping, more brake, more of that big oversize disc, squeeze, why isn’t the back doing anything? Fark its of the ground, I am going to endo onto him, s*#t do I hit him or the bike, let the brake of a bit and down comes the back so when I drill him I might stay upright. I stopped to cut it short, about a foot from him stalled and the skid mark in my jocks longer then the one on the ground. Scotty was ok and we continued along really well, later on a transport section whilst cruising along, did I say I was tired we came around a corner I was beside Scotty and he pulls the clutch in and rev’s the snot out of the DR and scares the s*#t out of me. So I waited till near the end and when he decided, wrongly I may add to go around a large puddle I flicked the BRP onto the back wheel and dealt some justice BRP style LMFAO I did!
We loaded the bikes and stopped by the pub at Mt Vic for a beer.
Look this is why this site was created meet up with like minded people and go riding, and it works so well because of all of you guys
Cheers boys great ride Shane, Tiny no crashs cool, Tiny’s mate got better as the day went on, time on the bike dude you went well, Scotty legend, I stuck it to him, jammed it up the inside of him a couple of time and he never gave an inch, we must have touched bars once and I had to give, love that stuff Scotty because when I got past it was only because you made a mistake in the single trail that’s the only way you can pass and I love it
Oh how does the dribble at the start fit this story, well I realised I was tired when I finished riding and was home again. Funny that bring on the Christmas Party!
