What a weekend.Despite myself being unorganised and completely computer incopetent, Mick, despite his over enthuisiastic wheely style, he managed to get me to the much anticipated Old bulls christmas party.
Huge black clouds followed us all the way from Wauchope yet through the mist we found the campsite and enjoyed meeting new and old faces round the fire(Thanks to Chicken for the firewood)Stuff night riding, a beer and a chat was more suitable in those conditions.
Saturday morning after some slippery trails a regroup saw that some old bulls had strayed. As a farmer I knew this was a problem however this was soon rectified. Some luscious loamy trails followed with an awesome variety of trails and riding styles. Highlights include Eagle on the mighty KLX, what an intro to trail riding. Champo’s speed and enthusiam in getting to the next photo location, as well as his rock moving ability. After an awesome long rocky downhill section where Fossil’s CRF did a great impersonation of a 1970’s 2 smoker on Super TT,a lunch break saw us regroup for some more fun.
The afternoon ride was a real single trail dream, made even more interesting by weather that even saw hailstones during a trailside crash repair. Some rutted gullies and steeper sections suddenly became very interesting.
Waiting at the bottom of Boulder hill was an amazing exhibition of rider technique, tyre selection and rider ability.Unfortunately, my ability came up somewhere short of Rider X,and some soil sampling and impersonations of a heart attack victim whilst trying to start “old burple” followed. However, my efforts gave everybody some comic relief, and thanks to Battye’s Bikes,my pathetic effort earnt me a set of new riding gear.Loved the video Ollie.
I don’t know how to describe the fun that was had on Saturday night, but thanks to Mac and Scooter for organizing the spit etc. and to the supporting busineses for the multitude of prizes and awards.
Sunday Ollie showed us some different trails, again with great variety of terrain and riding conditions.
Thanks to all concerned,T.B and Ollie for leading the rides, and everybody for making me feel so welcome.I enjoyed meeting all those I didn’t already know.
Special thanks to Battye’s bikes for the grouse new gear.
