AnonymousAs I mentioned in another post one of our recent rides resulted in me wanting something like an adventure bike. On Sunday I rode three types of bikes (my TTR250, a 250 Virago and a ZZR250) and the result was that I really preferred the TTR250. But as Sunday was a road ride I found the knobblies really annoying. Now I know I could motard it but I don’t want the hassle of doing that. I would much prefer to get another more roady type bike that will suit another function later down the track. The idea is for me and DanD to do a long distance trip in around 2 years time and travel for about 2 weeks. So I was looking for something with a bigger motor.
The ones I have been looking at so far are:
XTZ660 Tenere
KLR650
KLE500 (nice looking bike)I reckon I only have about $5k to spend at this stage which will bring the value of my bikes up to DanD’s level (learned a lesson with this too. Don’t tell someone that you’ll get them a new bike if they stop smoking. Then have them take you up on it so you buy the new bike and then 3 months later have them start smoking again. The rule was that if that happened the WR would have to go but I’m a softy so it’s still here. Also I got his old bike, the TTR250, and I didn’t want to lose that one back to him). I really didn’t mind the KLE500 and although I may be a little bit short on the money for the newer ones a 96 one goes for about $2 – $3k (and I am not sure what condition they would be in). But the problem is finding one.
I also realise that if all goes to plan we will need to buy another one for DanD but we’ll worry about that later. Much later (that’s what he gets for jibbing me).
Let me know if you’ve got some ideas on either the bikes above or another other ones you can think of.

Anonymousraceytracy and i love our nx650.
one of the best things we ever bought. the motor loves the hwy and the suspension loves the gravel roads, supposed to be as reliable as a rock, comfy, easy to fit panniers, ruggered, doesn’t have radiators to hole when dropped and laughs at heavy loads.
you can even dress dand up in a cut t-shirt and plonk him on the back
and dandy can paint it blue if he mustwhen i get home i’ll post a photo of ours up now it is fully set up for trips away.
we tried it out and camped at saint albans(?) on the weekend. sweeeeet

AnonymousHi Champo,
I didn’t put the NX on my list because I’ve already copied you guys once with the TTR230 and it would be pretty sad if I needed to do it again. I don’t doubt that it’s a great bike.December 8, 2008 at 5:30 am #114057
Anonymousthat’s silly
we were flattered that you considered our recommondation of the ttr230. it was a great bike for raceytracy. there is now even a ttr230 club for girls. however we understand that it wasn’t the bike for you.
we would be also flattered if you considered the nx650s. my opinion is biased as i liked them ever since they came out, and if i was to ride a bike into the desert. an aircooled honda would be it. i also do like the rally style bikes with the front fairing (with extension)as it deflects the wind better, you don’t have to look down to see the speedo when wearing full face helmets, you can fit side bags on the fairing (and looks horny).
remember our offer to lend it to you 2. still stands.

AnonymousKylie, you’re going to end up with a garage like Champo’s soon! Then if you buy a couple more bikes it will look like Ollie’s :p Good luck with whatever you decide

AnonymousThere are a few cheap old XR500/XR600’s on eBay at the mo’. Most seem to be in Vic though. There are also heaps of XR250’s around as well.
I’m bidding on a 74 CB200 that I want as a base for a cafe racer project…..
