Dirt Bike Promotions announce new series for ’09

Leading motorcycle event company, Dirt Bike Promotions, is set to shake up the Australian motocross scene next year with a fresh new series called the Yamaha MX Cross Cup.

The six-round series will combine three different types of motocross, with two stadium, two grass track and two ‘standard’ outdoor MX races.

Dirt Bike Promotions’ Phil Sargent said the Yamaha MX Cross Cup would visit five different New South Wales’ locations: Orange, Clarence (Lithgow), Dunedoo, Canberra and Maitland (Orange will host two rounds).

Sargent said the first round would be a stadium motocross at the Orange Showgrounds on January 31st.

“We’re really excited about the Yamaha MX Cross Cup,” Sargent said. “Both our motocross and stadium motocross series’ went really well last year and we’re looking forward to building on their success and giving riders something a little bit different.

“I’ve always been a fan of not just outdoor motocross, but tearing it up on a great grass track or gettin’ some air and banging bars in a stadium MX race, so I’m stoked we’ll be able to give racers the chance to enjoy all three in one series.”

Sargent said Dirt Bike Promotions had run events at Orange for more than 10 years: “it’s always a great place to have a race and the local fans are fantastic, so it’ll be a great town to kick-off our new series in.

“Our motocross event last year at Clarence, near Lithgow, was a hit so we can’t wait to have the second round of the Yamaha MX Cross Cup at the same MX track at Clarence on February 21st and 22nd.

“Maitland’s also been a great place for stadium MX and we get heaps of spectators, so it’s a great spot for the final round, which will be held on October 24th as a stadium MX.

“And we’re happy as well to be incorporating two new locations, with a grass track round on May 2nd and 3rd at Dunedoo and an MX round at the Canberra Motocross track on July 11th and 12th.”

Sargent said the penultimate round would be held as a grass track motocross at Orange on August 22nd and 23rd.

Stadium motocross utilises a man-made track with jumps and whoops formed from more than 12,000 tonnes of dirt.

Grass track motocrosses are held in large paddocks, with a marked course over the natural terrain.

The Clarence and Canberra motocross tracks are man-made, but in ‘outdoor MX’ style, with easy, table top jumps and bermed corners.

The Yamaha MX Cross Cup stadium motocross rounds will be one-day events held on Saturday, with day/twilight racing starting at 10am and finishing at 7.30pm.
The motocross and grass track motocross’s will be two-day races (Saturday and Sunday).

The Yamaha MX Cross Cup will offer classes for every rider from Pro Opens and Pro Lites to Clubman, Women, Over 30’s and Juniors from 4 to 15-years.

Entries to each round will be limited – download your supplementary regulations now from http://www.dirtbikepromotions.com.au.

I like to go and see the grass track, round 5 at Orange. We might have to try and organise an Old Bull social event and combine it with attending one of these events :)
