Anyone heard of this or used it, would be way cheaper than no toil if it works, someone who runs rental bikes over here uses it and swears by it, he also uses vasalene on the filter rim…What do you guys think
ive brought a spay can of canola oil but dont know weather to use it ??January 15, 2009 at 11:07 am #118356Food for thought, pardon the pun..LOL

No seriously, why not??Yep ive got my filter drying in the hotwater cupboard at the moment i think i will give it a spray tomorrow and see how sticky it gets..if it seems no good ill buy another filter
i might try it on a ride in the weekend its gonna be dusty ill take a spare one just in caseJanuary 15, 2009 at 11:19 am #118362ive heard it done before, but in my opinion when it comes to something that protects your engine especially the titanium valved 4 strokes why chance it with something that is meant to be eaten or cooked with. I dont think I would consider doing it,a litre of Motorex filter oil costs about $30 that will last me at least 6-9 months maybe longer.
ollie
January 15, 2009 at 11:26 am #118365ok well maybe i will do some shopping around and get some varying prices on filter oil, these bloody filter and oil companys seem to want premium prices for the stuff.. i dont think we get motorex over here i’ll have to ask around, maybe try supacheap

January 15, 2009 at 11:41 am #118357Yeah, I’ve heard of this and I think i can even remember an article in a Mag about it. Thing is, I paid best part of 12 large for my bike. If i take out the bits like frame, wheels, forks, swingarm, brakes lights etc, get left with the engine. That engine makes up a BIG part of that cost. A litre of filter oil is way cheaper. guess what I’m trying to say is,” no matter that I read it, no matter that someone who rides bikes tossed to them, i wont take the chance of dusting my motor for the sake of a few $’s saved”.
I just cant bring myself to try it??January 15, 2009 at 11:43 am #118358agreeed;)

AnonymousI think it would do the job, I question whether it would do it like the specifically designed oils out there. As others have said, for a small cost saving it’s not worth grenading your engine.
Your local KTM dealer will sell Motorex. If not you can use the spray from BelRay, seems to do the job too. Although messy, I think the oil you dip your filter into is the best.
