AnonymousDoesn’t sound good mate
Haven’t had anything like it myself but hope any ops don’t keep you off the bike long mate.
February 4, 2009 at 12:37 am #120587Mate I have ruptured three disks in one spill, and cracked two vertebra in another at a separate time, I have torn muscles from vertebra, after the first trauma the doc wanted to operate, but the trade off was no more riding, all I can say is try other doctors……you will find there is always an alternative. I have not had any operations and I am in constant dull pain if I don’t ride, the riding keeps all the muscle groups happening and this is what floats my boat. I was looking down the barrel of a 50/50 chance of a fix, but 100% no riding anymore.
F@ck that, I breath, I move , I ride.
The more often I can work out the body on the bike the better it feels…….THE ONLY LOOSE LINK………GOD Damn it hurts now when I do fall off….Not an easy path to tread my friend, investigate further before doing drastic surgery, Good LuckFebruary 4, 2009 at 6:39 am #120589Ktmrat wrote:

February 4, 2009 at 7:23 am #120580I would be VERY careful with it. Like KTMRAT my friend had some serious drama on his spine( grader tyre flipped outa the back of a truck bent him backwards and shafted the lower vertabrae)All I know about it is that the better you keep your core muscles the better they will support your spine…I like KTMRATS psyhio program, riding ther bike isdamn good core exercise. All the best with getting better mate.

AnonymousNever thought about the bike being good core excercise before. It’s another damn good reason to get out there though
February 4, 2009 at 9:33 am #120581Not as dramatic as those in the earlier posts but my wife had a disc explode in her lower back a year or so ago and cause all kinds of problems.
After much testing by local Doctors we finally found a good one who immediately sent for the right kind of tests (up until then, despitet he back pain and numbness the previous Doctors had said ‘womens probems). After two tests they determined that the disk had exploded and was actually resting against the nerve and over time (they said 3 – 6 months) she would lose all feeling.
Our new Doctor recommended a surgeon in Sydney (an associate of Dr Teo one of the best surgeons around) and so we had a consultation, he explained what was needed and she had the surgery. Since that day she has had no back pain, no pins and needles nothing. Would highly and fully recommend that surgeon.
Not sure if it helps but if needed just PM and I will send his name

February 4, 2009 at 9:39 am #120650I haven’t had any surgery, but have injured my back through work and I too feel the more I ride the better it is(go figure) and during the off season (summer) it seems to be worse for wear.
keep mobile ride your bike, best of luck, seek more advice, even physio’s and chiropractors, or eastern medicin like acupucture. ps the mother in law had surgery and it looked like she would never be the same again, but it worked out well, and you would not know she has had a couple fused together.February 4, 2009 at 10:36 am #120582Huge thanks to all,
Ive pretty much had ktmrats aproach for the past 12 months and strongly agree (he should write a documentry with that list) I listend to the first couple of doctors and specialists over the first couple of years and detiourated to the point of permenant crutches until i met a surgen who understood that surgery for me was a deathbed option in my eyes (as ktm said 50% chance of fix with100% no riding)not a option
Phys 3 times per week including lots of PILATIES, wtf i said at first but the shit really works!
well its decided fu*k surgery for the immediate future ill just get more braces for now,
ktm with that list and counting i know who is my rollmodel:ohmy: lol
how about the first who sucomes to the knife buys the beers/rum:lol:February 4, 2009 at 10:43 am #120660aarochild wrote:

I have had all the pins, plates and screws removed a few months after they were put in, because they all vibrated out with the riding, as I said I ache all over and its good to ride to offset this, if I dont ride I still ache but have the shits as well, so the decision is….ride and ache or….. no ride and still ache….a no brainer of a choice in my books….and thats why I am looking at 1.5 million KMs soon….live to ride and ride to live:laugh:

February 4, 2009 at 11:52 am #120583gday, mate i had spinal surgery about 5 yrs ago i had major issues with the L4 and L5, had alot of spinal needles epidurals, my surgeon dr seex british dr, very conservative pretty world renowned surgeon tried all options first to eleviate the pain, he did speak to me regarding synthetic disc replacement, which is a procedure through the stomach, however he was reluctant due to the damage i had, he intially tried a wallis implant however 2 days after surgery pain was still there and the leg pain was significantly worse, intial operation was a disectomy where they cut away the damage disk to free the spinal nerves, however 3 operations later it was fusion, this dr tried all smaller options first rather than major surgery very conservative bloke, any way after the fusion 100% change no more pain, as long as u continue to strengthen your core muscles using a swiss ball, mate never been better, thats not to say there are ocassions when my lower back might not be sore, but never to what it was, as long as u maintain strength exercises, i actually have more movement now than i did before the surgery. hope that helps
