fellas,
this is sammys DT175…..weapon!!
(must tell her about the mr sheen trick too:) )
its got 825 original km’s on the clock. sam has only done about half of them.
i brought it for a gorilla off an old bloke out in the country about 2 years ago.
he had brought it brand spankin new in 1989,for his son to thrash about on, on their property.
one day, the kid was roostin about in his front paddock, when a telecom (showin my age there) van drove in looking for directions as he was lost.
somehow the van managed to t-bone the poor kid in his own driveway.
the young bloke got messed up and ended up with a couple of pins in his leg as a result. (his dad asked me if i wanted the pins from his leg as they were in a jar, when i went to pick up the bike…ewwwww!!, no thanks i said, you keep them in the family mate).anyways, i took it home got a new h/light surround, set of bars and a front wheel and it was all good….i thought.
notice the alignment of the wheels.
when she took it for a ride up the street, i noticed it crab-walking. the frame was bent. i pulled of the tank etc and noticed the frame part where the shocker goes thru the middle of looked like a xmas bon-bon. twisted. it didnt worry sammy though, she is only a learner and happy to putt around. if i ride it, it wants to understeer tuning right and oversteer turning left.
the wreckers wanted to extort me up to $400 for a second hand frame!!!! , then the other week on ebay i scored this one for $20 bucks.
ive gotta paint it red but at least its straightso after easter its off to get sandblasted……
she still cant make her mind up whether to paint it pink or the original red…..i reckon red;)im told it MUST be finished and running and all shiny by the xmas party at louee. or im in trouble!!
end of part one….
April 5, 2009 at 4:44 am #128140Man,
I reckon you could have it all ready & shiny in less than a month:P If ya wanted to that isB)Nice little project you have there mate,,,,
Pity Mick is so far from your place, he would have it done in no time flat (maybe a little longer due to the fact it aint an XR:laugh: )
Keep us posted on the progress, and I reckon KEEP it as original as you can, it will be easier to flog off later when Sammy is ready for a 450 weapon to carve you up & roost the crap out of ya:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

AnonymousVery good bike there Menace. Kylie has had two DT175’s. Her last one was like Sammy’s. We bought it for $800, done a few little things to it and registered it. Sold it for $1200 (I think) plenty of people still look for the 175’s as they are as bullet proof as you can get and will take plenty of drops etc that learners can throw at them. It’s just to bad they never had an electric leg as they would be perfect then.
Looking forward to meeting you and Sammy at the Xmas party.
Back in the day I had a DT175 that donated bits and pieces to my IT125. Good thing that Yamaha made the DT175 and the IT125 with the same stroke size as I ended up with a DIT1275.
