anyone fitted led indicators and load resistors to their bike?

i’ve just fitted some to “”katie””, there were no fitting instructions with the resistors. the add did say they run hot, and i know nromal resistors run hot with normal use when there is power going through them.

however these get hot with just the ignition turned on without turning the indicators on.

a normal resistor is fitted inline with the component , fitted in the line of power supply to the component.

the only way i could get them to work was to put one end the power end and earth the load resistor to the chassis.

they flash as they should, however the resistor starts to heat up as soon as you turn the key on.

    any ideas?

    thanks!

Sorry man, I`m as good as a deer with his eyes poked out:blink:
However I will be interested in other replies you get, as I am still looking at putting some led`s on the KLX

I think I`ve seen some sets where they just hook straight up to the existing looms with the resistors built in etc (unsure though) as I said above,,,
    Good Luck

yeah apparently, i’m lead to believe the new bikes that have them factory fitted are all in the one unit. i bought a relay/ flasher cam off fleabay, it is supposed to correct the amp draw so they flash at the right rate. but it is only suited to most Jap bikes. so the seller told me.

his unit dose not work with non-jap makes for some reason.

from memory the flasher cam worked if i pulled the idiot/dash light repeater out, as all 4 lights would flash all at once. i think it even did the same with the load resister and the dash light fitted= all the lights flash at once.:S

i’ll call a few guys tomorrow and i’ll post what they say.

    well XY, being a sparky, i should know….but i dont:P

and seeing as ive been watching the footy…ie- asleep on the couch, im a bit groggy.

ummm, theres only 3 ways they could go i reckon.

cause my brains not workin, f*ck it, ill draw it….

the top kindergarden picture is in ‘parallel’, like the way you have it…i think.

the second is with the led first, then the resistor.
the third is with the resistor first.

note that the led has a polarity but the resistor wont, so maybe they should be like the third one..
did you try putting the resistor to the pos side?

whar colours are the wires XY ?
do they have a + and – marked on them

and how hot is hot, burnies hot or just warm….

    sorry mate im still asleep

the last pic is of the resistor next to an aaa battery.

sorry katie is still in the recovery room, i’m cleaning up some scratches in the rear guard b4 re-assembling her.

i got mine from here http://www.virtualvillage.com/Motorbike-Accessories/

they say buy in Oz, but they’re half the price of any here, and post is just as fast, took about a week to turn up and i’m in a rural area and only get mail mon, wed&friday.

as for wiring it up i test fitted them as per your pic 3, not work. so i ended up as per your 1st pic. i never give it a thought to running it “inline” with the earth of the indicators. the pack did come with two in it. and the add reckoned that you fit them to both sides, but i thought to just fit it in the power out side of the flasher.

oh and for as to how hot do they get, they are between ‘mmm thats warm’, and ‘what tha!? oh great another blister!’.

i’m not sure just how hot it gets, i only had it turned on long enough to test that all is working as it should, 1-2 min at most. so don’t know how hot it’d get on a ride.

this is the main reason, i wanted to find out if i’d done it right b4 i get it re-reg and start riding it around.
