TB just rang me with the news. Here is the official spin.
Merriman injured and out of the next weeks 4 Day, State rounds go to Bewley and Burrell.

The devastating news is that Stefan Merriman has officially pulled out of the upcoming 4 Day (A4DE) after a crash at round 3 of the NSW state Sprint series championship this weekend, breaking his right shoulder. He clipped a tree, which threw him into another couple of trees, and it all went wrong from there.Stefan is obviously incredibly disappointed by not only the injury, but the timing of the whole thing.
“I really wanted to be at the 4 day to show my true enduro speed. Everything was coming together well and the WRF is just working so well. I now have to be practical though and just concentrate on getting well for the next round of the AORC series which is now 6 weeks away. That should be realistic and I want to retain my lead in that main championship of the year.”
With Merriman out of round 3 and 4 from the crash, that led his team mate Jarrod Bewley into the top spot on the podium. He held quite a strong lead for that overall spot over Ben Grabham on the Saturday and then over Chris Hollis on the Sunday, to make 4 out of 4 wins in this state championship.
Another outstanding performance over this weekend of racing came from young gun Ben Burrell, who took the overall in the junior category for both days, to also make it 4 from 4.
With all that has been happening, Bewley could well be the favourite for the A4DE after dominating the strong NSW series and to date running 2nd in the AORC championship behind Merriman

AnonymousWhat’s that the fastest mouth in Nelson Bay
I’ll pop round his house this arvo and see how he’s getting on
Shame, I was looking forward to seeing him race too
April 13, 2009 at 12:17 pm #128492Interestingly, Grabham was not at Condo this year and the reason was said to be that he had nothing to prove there, and was saving himself for the A4DE… might have been a good decision!
GHR only had one rider this weekend (One of the Smith boys – Jake?) and about 6 hire bikes on the go. Be interesting to see how many GHR riders front up for the A4DE!

April 13, 2009 at 12:24 pm #128938Good question TB, I didn’t hear before I left but a quick check of the website has it as Tod Smith! Yamaha got through! It didn’t seem to matter (to me) since my rider Dave made it through in one piece! Jake Smith was out with mechanical faliure early Day 2

Yeah, I don’t know what the mechanical problem was, but it was very terminal. The worst part of a DNF for someone like that is that EVERYONE rides past you on their way through! :cheer:
They had quads there this year… man they kick up some serious dirt!!

AnonymousHollis or Grabbo are my new favourites for the 4 day now that Merriman won’t be racing. I’m still a bit upset about that, he looked real quick at the Round of the state enduro and would love to have seen his trials skills shine through on the special tests.
