This weekend was the Condo 750 Rally – at Condobolin NSW. The format is a navigational rally over two days with transport sections and race sections. The riders had support crews meet them, usually about every 100km or so. The competitive stages are about 50-100km long. Cars also race Condo but on a separate route to the bikes which is a good thing! 80 riders started, not sure how many finished, but it is a tough event!
I was there to crew for my brother in law David. Dave was riding the only Husky in the field, an ’07 Husky 610. Nice bit of kit, if that’s your thing! Dave started in position 69 I think and finished in something like 51, with no offs or mechanical problems. Lovely! It was his first real ride on the bike, which had 400km on it when he bought it – now about 1500km!
I will add more pics as I get them into photobucket, but here are a few to start with:
Dave in scrutineering
Some of the cars
We got there pretty late on Friday, got signed in, swapped a flat rear and headed off to calibrate the tripmeters (ICO’s). Check the eyes! Dave was pretty stressed!
April 13, 2009 at 12:31 pm #128926Ah ha I figured it must have been on when I saw some bikes covered in red dirt with map rollers on them.. I was travelling back to Sydney today.. That would have been great..

April 13, 2009 at 12:35 pm #128943Mate it was good stuff, but I am hesitant to say I will race it next year. The competitive stuff would be great, but the transport… ewwww! Sunday had 50km to get to the first competitive stage, which was about 100km long, then a 70km competitive followed by 50km transport, lunch, 50km transport and back to competitive of about 70km, then 70km transport back to parc ferme! Just whack the competitive bits back to back will ya!?!
More (and better) pics will follow, but they are all high-res and slow to upload…

First service, various bikes
Check the state of this bloke and his bike. He was unable to continue, with a dislocated or broken elbow. The bike was not too flash either!
More to come…

Second service, Day 1
Lunchtime at Euabalong racecourse, day 1
Parc Ferme at end of Day 1
April 14, 2009 at 3:04 am #128979Morning of Day 2
Todd Smith (Winner)
Due to a stuff-up in the directions for the service crews, we missed the first splash and dash (not a huge problem but annoying) so this is the second service for Day 2
Lunchtime Day 2, Euabalong racecourse again. This one has me in it…

AnonymousNice pics ECKS, the red dirt looks awesome. Your Bro’s bike looks nice too, very swanky! Is there a website with the official results?
Sounds slike they should rename it to the Condo 375 with the amount of transport sections they had going on!
April 14, 2009 at 3:22 am #128982Cheers mate, first real go at bike pics with the new camera. I think most of them are pretty good. Dave’s bike is pretty, and a real powerhouse. Seems to be reliable too which is important! Yes there is a website http://www.condo750.com.au but the results may not be up yet (there was nothing this morning anyway.)
Yeah, the transport has me second guessing myself about entering next year. If it was more racing less transport I would be a dead certainty to go. As it is my butt cheeks are protesting in advance!

AnonymousResults are in!
I wouldn’t mind doing this race at some point. It’s one of the bigger ones that i would like to say I’ve had a go at. But, like you, the big transport sections would put me off. I will probably do the A4DE next year and then see the following year what the plan is

AnonymousJust had a look at the results and the guy on the twin pot BMW, Graham Grant, came 44th outright. Now that is impressive!

AnonymousAnd the guy I know on a sposnored Husaberg from a local bike shop came 64th
Although he did have issues apparently.
April 14, 2009 at 3:41 am #128996That thing sounded wicked! Must have been an absolute handful but he punted it around pretty well! Better than other blokes on newer and lighter bikes anyway!
April 14, 2009 at 5:15 am #128997From a viewing area at the second last corner, about 400m from the end of competitive riding.
ECKS-Man and ECKS-bub! (She takes after her mum!)
Still more to come…
