they get those signs on footy fields to look square on the tele? You know, when you look at the footy field and there is a logo for OBT or whatever painted on the grass?
I’m a surveyor for those who don’t know – we measure stuff for those who don’t know what a surveyor is! We have just been asked to do a survey for the City Country NRL game in Orange so that they know the angles from the camera to the ground at various points.

Apparently the info gets sent to South Africa (not kidding, this is fair dinkum) then the sign layouts are worked out there and sent back to Aus so that they can be painted on the fields!
I was fascinated that it was quite that technical! Interesting eh!
May 1, 2009 at 2:06 am #131773mmm yes ecks I bet there is a hell of a lot that goes on that we never know about, Unless your in the industry you wouldn’t even give it a second thought, but yes it is interesting when you hear these things.
Cheers
Chris.May 1, 2009 at 2:13 am #131777We use a program here in health that involves the ordering of stock from a building that is only 100 meters from my office and when I hit submit the information is sent to brazil ,procesed then sent to the copmuter 100 meters from mine,Apparently cheaper than using a local provider?????????????????
:dry:May 1, 2009 at 2:15 am #131778Ha Ha yeah that’s funny Boony, see it all the time, that’s why we only get to speak to indians now when we call a call centre, no aussie would work for 10.00 a day.
Chris.
May 1, 2009 at 2:18 am #131774i guess in africa they have heaps of little people with tape measures on the ground ,and more in the trees with bonoculars
to correct their angles.
rudd made it to expensive to employ that amount of people in oz:blink:May 1, 2009 at 4:33 am #131779
AnonymousNever gave it any thought really. But now that you mention it it doesn’t sound so ridiculous. It can be anywhere in the world, what’s the difference over an email?
May 1, 2009 at 6:34 am #131830I occasionally wondered how it would be done, thinking that it would be calculated from the camera position or something, because it is kind of related to my work. Must be a little bit complex actually, intersecting 3D planes – I never did well on that in uni maths!
May 1, 2009 at 8:12 am #131853how the hell did planes get bought into this ecks???????????????????????????????????///

This lot is the view from the camera position:

Surveyor does work for NRL, did you get your own cheer squad?
Bc
May 5, 2009 at 3:32 am #132620Was hoping for that BC, but ended up looking at half nekkid footy players instead… :S
T’was a weird one for sure, but at the moment any job’s a good one, within reason anyway! Still, this will go on the website as an interesting and unique job!
