Another great day was had by all at KTMBULL’s ranch at Rollands Plains, everyone got to do some MX and some hot laps of Bill and Rat’s new sprint track. Bill’s place comes close to being the ultimate private bike park, with a nicely groomed MX track, several sprint loops, direct access to literally 1000’s of KM’s of trails and a fully equipped workshop, you couldn’t ask for more really. There is so much bush backing onto Bill’s property,it would be possible to ride from his place to Armidale without seeing a tar road.
The crew for the day consisted of;
Mick XR630
Connor KX85
Tripper CR125
Moose YZ125
Alex YZ85
Puddles Shank’s pony/DR250 rescue vehicle
Jamie KX85L
Justyn KX65
Gasit Gas Gas 300
Kaylah RM85L
KTMBULL KTM525
Will KTM65
Ash WR250
RiderX WR250
Micko CR250
I will let the photos tell the story.Mick on the CR125 attacking the ditch jump.
Moose had a bash at it too.
Connor showed us how it should look, when done correctly.
It isn’t a big gap to jump but a lot of people baulk at jumping it. Actually RiderX ended up arse up in the ditch and Gasit had a bit of a moment there too.
After a bit of a play on the MX track it was time for the sprint track.Poppa Moose lead the way.
It gets a bit tricky in places,it got to the tage that you could hardly breath in the bush for 2 stroke smoke.
Alex took it in his stride
Connor did too
Moose was there to give a hand when riders got stuck. He’s a champ!!
Luke (gasit) did the sweep duties
It is lush in the bush at Bill’s
Justo had a bit of grief on a hill.
Gasit had the hangover from hell and still rode all day,you shoulda seen his eyeballs, I thought he was gunna bleed to death.
Kayla took the bush in her stride
Justyn having the time of his life.
Gasit
There was some greasy little hills in there, Kayla showing how it is done.
Tripper on the CR125,that is a great little bike for the tight twisty stuff.
Jamie on her KX85L
After an hour or so of playing silly buggers in the bush the kids hit the MX track again.
Actually Alex literally hit the track and had a big get off,he hit the deck that hard we heard the wind get knocked out of him from 50 meters away!! He picked himself up and kept going though. He’s a tough little bugger!!Cool pic of Connor on a berm
Young Will and Justyn gave the 65’s what for.
Another of Justyn in the Berm
The XR started to develop a real throaty exhaust note and upon inspection, we noticed the Staintune pipe had in fact split,so of to the workshop we went.
Bill got the welder happening and it was fixed in no time, Thanks Bill,I will fix you up for that.
All this went down before lunch!!! We then all pulled up and had a rest at the shed.
Kez and Kelly had the BBQ going at full song
The boys all went upstairs in the shed for some secret men’s business.(to check out Bill’s collection of Z50’s and other assorted old bikes.
After lunch it was time for the OLDBULLS to hit some trails out the bush.
BULL
RiderX
Moose
Gasit
Mick
Right from the outset the pace was on and it quickly became evident that this ride wasn’t for the feint hearted!! Bill was setting a cracking pace, much faster than your standard OLDBULL bush bash.
We were headed to the Devils Punchbowl, which is an awesome waterfall, not far from Bulls place. Here are some pics of the Punchbowl
It is slippery as hell and I so thought someone would go arse up but I was disappointed
Arty shot
The last pic I took as from there I was to busy hanging on!!!
Once we left the Punchbowl things really heated up as far as pace goes and the boys had a ball on the unmolested leaf strewn trails. We came to one trail called of all things “Garbage trail”,Bull warned us that that it was sandy, rocky, steep and had the rut from hell fair up the middle of it. He asked if we wanted to do it or go round and I heard from somewhere behind me RiderX yelling “yeah jam it into em Bill” So Bill takes of with Mick in hot persuit and he was right it was in fact a rather gnarley trail that went on and on forever up the hill.
I came around a corner and Bill had gotten himself stuck in the big rut and I tractored around him only to get stuck in the rut about 10 feet past him, the next bloke to arrive at the spot where we were stuck was riderX and having very few options left also got himself stuck, Gasit arrived to find the trail completely blocked and had to stop thus loosing his momentum as well.
It was at this stage I realized taht the XR had made it further up the hill than all the other bikes, albeit by only a few feet. So I grasped the moment and started yahooing and dancing a jig, spruiking about how good the XR is blah blah blah.Althought it was stalled and stuck in a rut and there was no way I could start it again without going to the bottom of the hill again.
The boys weren’t gunna let me have my moment for long and there was some mad revving and roosting as they tried to get further up the hill than me,eventually RiderX got past me and came back to help the other guys who all got past me.So that was my short lived moment of glory. The XR was so stuck in the rut we had to manually lift it up and turn it down the hill so I could get going again. I was so knackerd when I got to the bottom I wasn’t real keen to have another go at the hill so I rode around the long way.
By then it was getting late in th eArvo and we thought we best head back and rescue Puddles from our kids.
Center ridge road would have to be one of the sweetest trails I have ever ridden, so we did and up and back along it just to finish the day. Bill lead with Moose hot on his tail and despite my best efforts they left me in their dust.
Once back at Bills a few beers and laughs topped the day of nicely, Bill also gave me a present that I was very happy with.a XR600 engine and a spare fuel tank.
A huge thanks to Bill and Kez for their hospitality and the use of their fantastic property, we can’t wait to get back there again soon.May 3, 2009 at 11:04 pm #132244some great photo’s Mick. Kids had a ball no arguements last night from them about going to bed they were nacked.

May 4, 2009 at 5:33 am #132290Top riding up that way
We’ve been out to Punchbowl many a time, great spot to cool off on those summer days. My father lived where the tar meets the dirt out of Bellangary.
Hey Mal5.1, did we take you out to the waterfall when you came up??
Love to get up that way again
Cheers
