Scotty’s ride over before it started. I’ve been looking forward to this ride for months. Though I had everything organised but my plan slowly started to unravel till it all finally finished in a soggy cold mess :(.

When TB posted this ride I was strait onto the rosters bitch to get this weekend off, all sorted, so I thought. When the roster for this period came out I found I was on a 6 week rotation with another department. New roster has me working at a Aboriginal Reconciliation Parade on the Saturday, my response, F*&K F*&K F*&K F*&K F*&K.

New plan. I work till 3.30pm then ride to Hampton and meet the boys and girls (menace and moto) there. The day was going well. Rain in the morning had the parade called off(thats something i’m not sorry about),then the sun began to shine :).

Raced home after work, gear all ready to go, on the bike and up over the hill I go. I get about 5km before I realise in my excitement I left my backpack at home, bugger. Go home get pack and off again weather still fine. I get as far as blaxland and it starts to rain. She’ll be right. I get to springwood and it’s bucketing down and by now I can already feel water getting in through my Ballards jacket. Faulconbridge, goggles fogged and no vision, nearly hit the gaurd rail trying to stop.

Off with the goggles and on with safety glasses, still determined to make it to Hampton. Get as far as Hazelbrook and might as well not have jacket, wet to the bone and it’s getting cold, visibility still shit, just following tail lights of cars in front. Then I notice tail lights stopped, F#@&*&CK that was close. Thats when I pulled the pin, I know when i’m beat. I turned tail and headed for home.

When I got home I called Tiny who informed me it was freazing and foggy in Hampton and it was prolly a good move to turn around and head for home.

The worst part is now I got a shit load of wet gear to dry.

Bad luck there Scotty,Karma for the effort mate and knowing when it time to throw the towel in. I also know what it is like to contend with the roster Nazi’s. There will be a next time;)

    Bad luck there Scotty.
Day 1 of the caves ride was wet, wet, wet,,,,,and cold. We couldn’t get across a river somewhere and had to divert to some dirt and tar roads for probably an hour. Some of it we would have had to do anyway but when it was all put together it made for some wet and did I mention cold riding. I remember when we finally got to some single track and there was a line up to get over a couple of obstacles I couldn’t stop shaking, by the time we got everyone over them though we were all starting to warm up. I don’t think anyone was fully prepared for the conditions, least of all Moto who rode the whole day with jst a zip up sloppy joe over his riding jersey.

I wimped out of day 2, as my partner was there with the ute, I loaded up and left the rest of them to it and came home, it was a bitter sweet moment, on one hand I would have loved to be back out there with them all but the idea of spending another 6 hours cold and wet put me off. At least Moto could have my raincoat to keep him a bit warmer for the return leg.
Having said all that I really enjoyed the days riding with the exception of the road parts, everything else was great, there were only a few really slippery sections, the rest were unreal.

350kms, some very wet, but I had a great time, I had a non water proof jacket and I like others was cold at times, but would do it again without a 2nd thought, today was better

Cheers to everyone that turned up regardless of the weather which weather reports lead myself and others I spoke with over the weekend to believe would have been much better than it was :(

I only took one picture and will let others post their stories and pictures
