Cmon Mal and Murph wheres the ride report:laugh:
I will make a quick one.
10 of Us showed up
Me gasser 300
Gili WR450
my brother shane RMX
Mal sherco 5.1
Murph kato 525
smurph aka Tim kato 200
Big Holl ?? wr450
The Dude Husky 510
Morgo DRZ400
son of Morgo (smorgo:laugh: )TTR 250it was rather Brisk in the Watto’s at 730 in the morning but it was good as there was no rainB) Conditions were perfect Gilli and I opted for the jackets with the sleaves removed, which turned out to be a good option:laugh:
Murph led off first and set a good pace thru the single trails heading soth to Watagans forest Rd then thru all of the little off shoots before reaching Hitchcocks. Mals starter did not want to disengage so it was kicker only for him the rest of the day. The Dude hit a pretty good sized rock hidden in the dirt and he took a nose dive right in front of me:laugh: My brother Shane had not ridden for about 2 years and this was his first ride on his newly acquired RMX. He also come a cropper and was wedged under his bike which had to be lifted off of him:side: Hitchcocks was a great blast although some of the mud holes down the bottom were rather deep as I soon found out:silly: I led the boys out onto the tar for a couple of Kays then into Maculata, been a while since I had last been there so it took a while to get my bearings sorted, I led the boys through someones special test area before heading up the mountain. I took one wrong turn but realised before it was too late. We stopped under a powerline and dude broke out the GPS and Murph the topo  Maps. after much conjecture we all agreed that we were under the only power line that had a kink in it:laugh: We got going again and knew we on the right track, the rock steps were a challenge and the low lying areas were well and truly rutted out after some stupid 4 x 4 activities:angry: We got back to the main Rd and Gili took the lead to Prick hill and all of the single trail after it. Nothing really to exciting to report with everyone getting up prick hill easily. Morgo had a bit of a lay down after having a bit of a confrontation with a vine. We then rode all the way back to the cars at Olney campsite. I have not been so cold in a long time thank God for the jacket. We all a had a feed back at the cars, Morgo and his son had to pull out as did my brother Shane as the earlier crash he had made his thumb really sore and he couldnt hold on real well. We then headed off for the Basin doing some really good single trails which looked likee they were being marked out for the upcoming Watagans rally. Murph looked like he knew where he was going and we were setting a cracking pace with only seven of us now riding. Unfortunatley I picked up a rear puncture and my fork seals were oozing fluid out of them like a fat chicks ulcers on her inner thigh:S I didnt have a spare rear tubebut Mal offered me his,but I dont like borrowing others stuff So I let the guys continue down the Koala track while I limped home like a mongrel Dog with its tail between its legs:angry: I loaded up the Ute and waited for the boys. I was approached by a guy on a new Kato 300 who was wanting some fuel as he had emptied his onto reserve and wouldnt have enough to get back to the letter A he said he can only get 80k’s to a tank:ohmy: As I sat down again Gili rocked up and said Murph had trouble with his Kato, not 20 seconds later I see dude on the Husky with the big Kato being towed:woohoo: Bit to slow to get a photy. apparently the sprocket bolt came out which allowed the chain to derail.
all up we did about 135 km’s and I was sure feeling it,my butt felt like it had done 10 rounds with Ian roberts:S Gotta do something about that seat!!
Thanks Mal and Murph for Organising the ride and all the other boys for being there. It was great to get out there on a ride with my brother again, brought back some old memories. sorry Gili I wasnt good company on the way back home as I was asleep for most of it:unsure: I have just ordered new seals fork springs and rimlocks for the Gasser so she is going into refit.Might be a couple of weeks before I am able to get back out thereOllie
sorry I got no Photies

June 15, 2009 at 1:38 pm #139660Good report Ollie. still got no idea where we went. But a great weekend all up. It was good to meet some more Old Bulls and put faces to names. I need to have a chat to you about the gasser. i rode Tims KTM 200 and i think I maybe converted to the two stoke side. But we’ll talk about that later.
Saturday was a great mix of fire trails and tight single track. Except for the sherco deciding to lock up the starter clutch and just as we were about to have it towed back to the cars, it released and all was good. As long as i kick started it. The pace was quick with the corner man system working a treat and not a lot of time to get the camera out. Thanks to everyone for turning up and murph, ollie and gilli for leading.
Sunday was another big day after a 2:30am bed time and way to much alcohol. Murph was up at 7am cooking bacon and eggs:woohoo: . We had a great ride up to the gap for a hambuger. Murph will have to fill in the ride details.
I got home at 8pm last night feeling like I’ve been run over by a truck and spent the day cleaning all the snotty clay off the bike. Then about three hours resizing pics and uploading them. Still have the videos to upload and should get to them tomorrow night. Here are the few pics I took for the saturday ride.
Shane
Morgo

June 15, 2009 at 8:54 pm #139667Nice report there mal5.1, sounds like a big weekend for you, shame about the mechanical dramas though. We (the Lotsa’a pub group) saw you guys at the end of the day, Murph was still at the camp ground packing up and we passed Ollie on the road as he drove out, I gave you a wave Ollie as you drove past when we stopped to regroup. We were just making our way back to the cars and were about to hit a couple more singles along the way.

June 17, 2009 at 1:36 am #139750Thanks Ollie. I was going ask at the end of the day but you got the flat. Maybe next time mate if I don’t buy one in the meantime.

I only ask because I dont know / hear of anybody that gets the flats you doon the trails or mainly the watagans? I can think of a couple of rides that you have gotten them and missed the rest of the ride
What pressure do you run? Or was it the tube that was patched at bull’s I am interested only because I haven’t had a flat for about 4 years (now will get 4 in the next year DOH!) I run those Michelin ultra heavy duty tubes as does crash, chicken and chris and there has been no flats between us and I have been running 10psi in my rear bridgestone in all conditions (my rear tube was purchased in 2004 to go the the cape)
Am just curious as you are a seasoned campaigner / old and been around (yeah like me) and was wondering mate

This is not a gee up

AnonymousI too have noticed that you seem to get a few flats Ollie. I put it down to the fact that you can’t ride and are too tight arse to buy a new tube so probably have 30 pathces on the rear alone or have made your own polyolliemololaphin pharoah’s ear wax substance to hold them together
I’ve never had one and I’m fooly sik innit
June 19, 2009 at 6:50 am #140090I normaly run bridgestone ultra heavy duty tubes, but the tube in the rear of the Gasgas is the standard heavy duty, with a patch on it from Bulls place. I havnt pulled the tyre off yet to check it out,but I was running 10 PSI in the rear We did this big rocky uphill out of the basin when I noticed the flat:( Gassaers also come with the most pathetic rimlocks ever invented (Michelin by the way) so It could have been that as well. I have ordered a new one to replace it. so when I can get down the garage and check it out I will let ya’s know.
I must admit I have been having a shite run with the flats:(

June 20, 2009 at 2:46 am #140120Ok So I Just went down to the Garage and pulled off the rear wheel and tyre. I inspected the tube and as I had suspected the stupid Poxy rimlock had punctured the tyre. The patch was still in place and holding strong. I am still waiting for my bag of goodies to arrive from Melbourne which includes a new rimlock. Why do manufacturers put obviously inferior components on a motor cycle:angry: It only takes a few occurances and then the word gets out and the manufacturer starts getting a bad wrap, cant be good for sales:dry:
Next job is to pull my forks out in preperation for the new springs and seals.cheers Ollie
June 20, 2009 at 3:08 am #140331Why do you think its the rim lock because I remember you getting two flats on the RMX in the Watagans since I have known you and you didn’t swap rim locks from bikes did ya
Try those michelin tubes mate or at least have a look at one instead of just writing it of because I suggested it or its a michelin product
Just a thought buddy
I like Moto’s take on it
