AnonymousWho had the silly idea of going out for a ride yesterday? Who thought ‘what a better way to spend your anniversary than to spend it riding all day?’ Me.
We set off yesterday morning after depositing the little D’s at their Nanna’s. We set off from home and headed up to the Range Road towards Sugarloaf looking for a track that DanD had seen and wanted to know where it went. Well, nowhere unfortunately. It went for probably 200 metres and ended up as a fireplace/campsite. That’s it. I have no idea how we then happened to get on this other track that turned out to be the hill’s from hell.
It probably wouldn’t be too bad in the dry but in the wet it just turned into a slippery mess. Just walking down it was a struggle. Anyway don’t know how it happened but we ended out at Mt Vincent. After 5 minutes debating which way to head we went my way which took us back to the gap (which is where we wanted to go). DanD’s way would have sent us to Cessnock (he has a terrible sense of direction, remember that if you go on a ride that he is leading).
We then debated lunch and decided that for our 12-year anniversary lunch we would go down to the servo near the Oak for some sausage rolls. We sat on our butts in the carpark and ate them. Romantic? No, thank god. I hate all that corniness.
We then spent a little bit of time in the Watagans. But no where near the trail bike rally. It was very muddy though. But we found an area that we are going to go back and explore one day because it looked like there were heaps of excellent tracks around there.
After that I had the bright idea of heading back up to the gap and then through the bush home. F%@k! After 4 hours of heavy duty riding I obviously didn’t know how f%@ked I was. There was a couple of hissy fits though I wasn’t cranky at DanD and there was one stage when I threw the bike down.
I couldn’t wait to get back on to a dirt road and I don’t think that I have ever been like that before. I should probably mention though that I did have a slight hangover from the night before. A little way down the road we saw a bit of a commotion with all these young guys just standing around. When I pulled up I found a guy down in a drainage ditch with his bike on top of him and his head in a drainpipe. Turns out he missed the corner, flew into some trees and slid into the drainage pipe. What a goose!
Anyway his mates didn’t seem to know what to do so DanD helped get the bike off him and pushed it back up onto the road while the young fella tested out what was broken. He seemed to be OK and just a bit shaken. It was good to see that he did actually have a helmet and boots, thankfully.
We headed home so that DanD could wash the bikes (I’m apparently not as anal as DanD). We had a nice BBQ for tea and it was really quiet without the kids.
What better way to spend your anniversary! 5 hours of slippery, shitty, slimey mud and other than that last hour I thoroughly enjoyed it.

AnonymousGood report Kylie – I wasn’t going to tell anyone about your little tantrum / throw the bike down / have a swear / decide you hate riding and mud-clay sucks. But considering you did I don’t have to now.
It was a very slippery and yes I do want to go back and have a look at THAT trail that we went down yesterday (definately in the dry though).
As for the romance side of our anniversary ride – I thought it had all the makings of romance, getting all hot and sweaty on some slippery trails with a girl all covered in mud. Maybe I just have a different sense of romance to you my dear. Oh well:huh:
Thankyou for the last 12 years Kylie. I know I have enjoyed them:)
Next ride might not be as slippery hopefully;)

June 22, 2009 at 5:38 am #140594Nice report Kylie, and happy Anniversary again.
You didn’t mention on sunday night the number and the effort that went into the hissy / bitch fits Kylie
What a top way to spend your special day, although Kylie I would see a good lawyer as you wouldn’t get 12 years for murder let alone sentenced to spend it with Dan
