I’m in the market for a secondhand bike. My first bike back in the dirt after 20 years was a sweet WR426, but that was stolen about 9 months ago. Been looking at 300cc 2Ts mainly due to the cost of rego for a bigger bike, but lately I’ve seen a few Husky 510s around for only a few dollars more. I’m limited to $5K.
While I was looking for a lighter bike, I reckon an electric leg would go a long ways to making up for the extra weight, and I never really had an issue kickstarting the WR in awkward situations.
So what’s the good goss on these bikes? I hear they have fragile big ends?
Any idea on other issues? What about handling, performance, weight, range, and can you readily find stuff to fit such as pivot pegz and other blingage?
Ergos? Good for a tall rider?

Beatle In my opinion I wouldnt touch the husky unless it had FI. They are dropping in value pretty quick at the moment. Depending on the type of riding you expect to mainly be doing should determine what bike you get. For 5k you would get a nice wr450 (04,05) and there is plenty of bling to be had for these bikes:laugh:
I have gone back to the two strokes 07 Gasser 300 and love it,suits the riding I like to do and I am not to knackered after a days ride. In the two strokes for the money you are looking at i reckon a 05 -06 husky or Ktm 250/ 300 would be a goer. I have heard that Husky 4t’s can cost a packet to rebuild (brothers TC610 was nearly 3 grand:( ) P-Dub has a pristine XR400 for sale that is worth looking at as well. best of luck mateOllie

Cant complain about my 05 Husky 510
I am a bigger dude so I need power and the 510 has heaps.
Can hunt down mates on the straights.
Yes can b a handful on single track but when in dought power out.
A mate just traded his in after 7000kms and he said it was troule free rideing.
They chew chains sprockets and tyres if u ride them hard.as I do.
I reckon depends how heavy u r if over 100kgs go Husky.
If lighter go a WR or heavens forbid a KTM.:woohoo:
My 2 cents.July 9, 2009 at 1:47 pm #142946The 510 makes a good towing rig eh dude?

AnonymousI’d stick with the 2T. The big Husky will a struggle if you come out with us in the Wattie’s
Especially if you’re not fit.
You don’t want the bike to be the restriction.
Just my opinion of course…..

MurphJuly 13, 2009 at 9:47 am #142859Everything COSTS money to fix, everything breaks sooner or later. My Husky hasnt skipped a beat in the 2 yrs I’ve had it. Mate i ride with has an 04 510, it hasnt skipped a beat in the time Ive known him. Whats the cost of rebuilding a KTM, TM,Gasser,Yamaha, etc? My Advice…Go with whatever curls your toes. If your tall the ergos of the Husky will suit. How quick does F.I. fire up if you crack the battery? ( yes, i have cracked one) ..Just Curious?
