– 15 Jul 2009Motorex KTM Finke Desert racers first and second podium performers, Ben Grabham (Grabbo), and Brad Williscroft (Wonka) will take on the Americans in the Baja 1000, on Mexico’s Baja California Peninsula this November.
The 2009 Baja 1000 is normally a point to point race, however this year it will be a 1000km loop race, starting and finishing in Ensenada.Grabbo and Wonka will enter the race as a united force, sharing the one bike, a KTM 530 EXC, with each rider competing in different stages of the event. While one rider is racing, the other will be driving a support vehicle on a shorter route to the next check point before swapping over again.
The biggest challenge for the duo with their entry is raising $25,000 needed to get themselves over to the event, with flights, freight, entry fees, accommodation and mechanical requirements.
They are therefore calling on the support of industry and fans to help raise the cash needed for their Team Australia to enter the Baja 1000.
KTM Australia has created some sponsorship packs for the fans to help the boys out.
For $150 you can be a part of the Baja ride, with your own name on the bike graphics, plus you will receive a KTM cap and sticker sheet, and a signed team photo of Grabbo and Wonka.
You will also be added to a sponsor distribution list for behind the scenes updates prior to the racing and during the actual event.
To register go to the Baja 1000 link on http://www.ktm.com.au.Grabbo and Wonka will be visiting clubs around NSW to launch their ride, and also promoting the sale of the sponsorship packages. Track visits will include:
• Sunday 26 July – Lakes
• Saturday 22 August – Kembla
• Sunday 23 August – Appin
• Sat-Sun 19-20 September – Lithgow-Bathurst Sunny Corner Trail Bike RideIn addition to the track visits, Grabbo and Wonka will be holding two exclusive trail ride days in conjunction with Sunny Corner Trail Tours for $150pp per location at Clarence on Friday 21 August, and the Sunny Corner State Forest on Friday 28 August.
The trail riding will be from 9.00am to 4.00pm and include lunch, plus tuition on various terrain throughout the course of the day.
For this initiative riders must have a registered bike and be capable on off-road enduro terrain. There are only 20 spots per ride day available, and placement will be confirmed on a first in basis.
To register go to the Baja 1000 link on http://www.ktm.com.au. Once spots are full this will also be announced on the site, however KTM will be keeping a reserves list, if this list reaches 20 a second trail ride date will be announced.

Anonymousgood on ktm (and you) for giving benny a go. he deserves it.
we should take up a collection to send you there to help them out. you could drive the team to the change over points in a reliable truck. and if, if some unforseeable unfortunate event should occur, you could step up and save the day by riding. you know a lot of the terrain from the video. best take the 6fiddy just in case.
