Started off by picking up a bike trailer ramp in the middle of the dirt road, then made the fuel dump at spot X. Came accross Moto crawling down the dirt in his pimp mobile  (Sorry Moto its a very nice car). As I suspected the ramp was his B). His bike had a lie down on the trailer going pretty fast along the freeway and was now standing up held only by a piece of string. I gave him one of our spare tie downs and it was all good for the trip down to the Basin.
Geared up and we were off for a warm up loop. I was all over the shop so I let a bit of air out of my front tyre which helped a liitle. New tyre on the back felt ordinary may have to let it down a bit more too
Back to the cars to refuel. Then off into some crazy singles for most of the day :)
I had a bit of a misshap when I took on a rock downhill ledge with a fraction of a second to much hesitation. Fell pretty hard but got up laughing and cursing myself for being such an idiot. No damage to the bike but alot to the pride
A few broken trees, one of which stopped a bunch of 4wd’s from going any further but we were lucky enough to squeeze underneath :)
The last major hill was just too wet to conquer so we gave it a miss after a few attempts and found another little single which we had to push our bikes up a wet slimy rock section. Good team effort as it always should be B)
Finished the day by doing all the singles back to the Basin :woohoo:
Feeling a little sore today so it must of been a good ride.
Sorry no pics as we didn’t really have time to take any.
    Cheers :cheer:
    Murph

I’ll do report tomorrow but I will say now that I had an awesome day and the trails were excellent from start to finish, just the dort of ride I love doing. Bring on the next one!

After a shocking start to the morning (see other thread) I had arrived at the basin ready for the Murph’s second Basin run.

After seeing the vids, pics and carnage of the first one and not having ridden for 3.5 months I have to admit to being a little apprehensive. Especially seeing as there was just Murph, Tim and myself so I couldn’t hide behind a less fortunate rider in a bigger group :p

Once kitted we got straight into it, I felt pretty good on the bike and the confidence came rushing back. The first greasy hill we came up against showed me that my confidence has once again overstepped the boundaries of my ability and a gratuitous twist of the throttle saw me on my arse less than 2 minutes into the ride  It was looking like it could be a long day!

The pace through the mêlée of single trails was brisk and constant and we flowed from single to twin and back to single again having a ball. The second hill, long and rock infested saw my arms pumped up bigger than Popeye’s and I was holding on for dear life preying the top came soon as controlling the clutch had now become a gargantuan task.

Luckily for me my prayers were answered and I had made it by the skin of my teeth. After a 2 minute stop to let some air out of Murph’s front tyre we continued on back towards the basin for a quick top up of fuel.

Heading out again I couldn’t begin to tell you where we went, I had totally and unequivocally lost all sense of direction and just followed Murph or Smurph, whoever was in front at the time. What I can tell you though is that I loved the trails, a mix of the single trail, loamy twin trail, tricky and rocky uphill climbs, log hops the works.

I told Murph about ten times how much I liked the route, I’m going to go back and scout the area myself. Through the days riding we hardly stopped and we did it was only for a very short break before getting back into it.

Other than a small moment of uncertainty bringing Murph uncharacteristically to the ground in what looked like a nasty fall (he was lying across the jagged rocks laughing to himself) all the crashes of the day were mine. With the hard stuff dispensed and on the singletrail back towards the basin I was getting pretty tired in the arms and the sloppy mistakes were coming out causing me to lay the bike down twice more and bringing my tally for the day to 3. One of them was quite good as I wondered wide off the singetrail but kept my speed up through the long grass, that is, until I hit a foot high fallen tree stump in a fork shape which sent me over the bars for a track inspection!

We did have to bail on one hill as it was just too slippery and after me and Murph having 2 attempts each we turned tail and found another way round.

All in all I had an excellent day it was one of the better rides I have done…period.

Thanks to Murph and Smurph for a great day and the assistance with the tie-down. I was sore when I got home and was sore all over yesterday, although given the time off the bike I had I pulled up better than expected.

Bring on the next ride :)
