Last race for the NIPES (Northern inland pony express) is at the Upper Horton on Saturday the 17th October 2009.
This is the ‘Big One”. This one is unique due to the fact it is held on a Saturday, and it’s also the day of Presentations to all the class winners. I would like to see all the Old Bulls there to hear my many acceptance speeches and I need someone to help me to organize a Pan- teck to get all my trophies back to Tamworth.
It’s a great day and a great track, rivers, gullies, hills and a goat mountain. The usual sign on time is between 7 – 8.30 am. Sighting lap 9 am. Thunder at 10 am. The pitt area and starting/finishing area is right next to the Upper Horton Club. Camping areas are next to the river or on and around the Rodeo ground which is across the road from the club.
Once the race is over presentations are made then we all go sit in the river, drink beer and cool our Nads. While the race is on two local brothers who are mates of mine stand at the back of the club slowly turning a pig and a Lamb on a fire pit enclosed in a big old steel water tank. There is a huge feed on that night and there is usually a band or something banging away throughout the night. Kathy is the bar tender and she is one big cranky heifer but a great stick. When you have had enough you just wobble outa the club and pass out in your swag or tent and get up in the morning for a big cook up of Bacon and eggs. It’s a great little village and the people who live around it are top country folk. There is a huge kids playground and plenty of shade and fishing for Cod or Carp if you want to. You can read a little bit about it here http://www.bingara.nsw.gov.au/index.cfm?page_id=1081
If any of you bulls want to travel up this way it is about an hour and a half northwest of Tamworth. Entry forms are not available at present but will be soon. As soon as they are I will post the website to down load the entry form. You don’t really have to pre enter, you can just save twenty bucks by doing so.
More than happy to help out any bulls who are thinking of heading this way for the Upper Horton Pony Express, just let me know what you want and we will see what we can organize.
