Down at the RTA the other day and had a yarn to the bloke behind the counter.Yapping away i found out he rides and his son rides trailbikes. We got to talking about riding with your number plate displayed on the back of your backpack.Apparently this is a big No No.licence plate must be fixed to the rear of the bike and clearly visable. It was news to me as i was riding with it strapped to my back pack.
You learn something everyday…..Just thought i would share this for those who are unaware(like me)
Bol :woohoo:September 22, 2009 at 8:11 am #153802I was pulled over for having my plate on my backpack, I told him it had just broken off on the day it was the only place I could put it where it could be seen. He let me go but said to make sure it was fixed on the bike in future as it wasn’t legal.
I thought I posted that somewhere before but maybe not.

AnonymousI’ve been pulled over 3 times with it on my backpack and they haven’t said anything. I’m sure it’s not legal but not having indicators and horn isn’t legal either and I see lots of people without both. The point I would make is that I lost 3 number plates in as many months when it was on my bike and then I have to ride home without one, I have never lost a plate since it’s been on my camelpack and it’s clearly visible.
I think the police are reasonable providing you are being sensible. If you are pulling mono’s up the street then don’t expect much sympathy, if you have just pulled out of the bush for a quick tar section for some fuel I’d be surprised if they didn’t let you go without a warning first.

September 22, 2009 at 11:37 pm #153873I have purchased my share of number plates, they crack the break and to be honest I think they are also a bit dangerous at the rear of the bike in the event that you let Moto ride your bike and he has a crash he could be cut
Mine is on my camelback and will be staying there, I have been stopped before and nothing really said, and if I get pinned so be it, that’s life. I really think if you pass the attitude test with the officer that stops you things will be OK

AnonymousYeah, we’ve all said before how easy those alloy ones are to tear up. Mike tore his on the Coffs ride at the weekend, not the sort of thing you want in your back or leg if you crash, crashing hurts enough as it is
September 23, 2009 at 12:40 am #153879I’ve got a nice little QLD one on mine, flipped it, crashed it, been hit in it, still there and never broken off…. touch wood, however it is tucked up nice and neat under a slim tailight and carrier setup.
Carry my rego label in backpack though.

I lost my Rego label on the weekend on the Coffs ride. God only knows what they will charge me for a new one at the RTA.

The fine for not displaying a rego label is the same as not displaying number plate correctly I believe

September 23, 2009 at 1:32 am #153888I got sick of replacing rego labels so I took a leaf out of TB’s book and got mine laminated then I zip tied it to my left fork leg between the two triple clamps.
I am also on my third number plate in 3 years, I lost one and the other just split down the middle and fell in two pieces.September 23, 2009 at 1:45 am #153890
AnonymousI keep my rego label in my camelback as I can’t be arsed to laminate it and anything on my bike can dropped, scratched or smashed at any time
