The wife is looking at a set of these Answer Fraser MX boots for me at Ballards for $144. I Know I’m going to hear alot of you get what you pay for but as I only get off road a dozen times a year I think these might be a good option. Anyone had a pair or heard any bad reviews.

    I reckon they’ll be alright :)

A pair of thongs would be better than lose little road booties you were sporting at Coffs

I had a pair, actually I still have them in the shed

I was of the same opinion as you Fez,,,, but I learnt my lesson after a fall on the Hill End ride  Badly bruised & swollen ankle

They don`t offer much at all in the way of quality protection in the ankle area.
So now I am sporting the TCX Pro2

Don`t get me wrong, they are good value for the $144, as long as you don`t expect to be landing on your ankles too often
My pair were worn weekly and lasted for about 8 months before they started to show some signs of falling apart across the top of the ankle area (imitation leather stuff peels off when flexed a lot)

Other than that, I found them a good starting point for a pair of boots.

Hope I haven`t been too forward in scaring you off ;) They have to be better than little road booties anyway   :silly:

    Good Luck

They are nice and cheap Fester but you only get what you pay for you know.

Yeah, I actually lost about $500 in wages after that fall at Hill End  (at home with the foot elevated for a couple of days)
And the new TCX`s only cost me $399
So, I learnt the lesson the hard way

Make your own mind up though Fester!!! It is relative to the riding you do I suppose ;) to a certain extent

Fester it doesnt matter if you wear the boots once a year or twice a day you still need protection and you get what you pay for, sorry but thats what it comes down to.

I’ve been wearing a set of these for about a year now. No major issues yet. The Buckles are plastic and I keep expecting them to brake but they havn’t yet.

The stitching around the buckles is starting to look stretched and only time will tell how long this lasts.

The metal toe plate on both boots is hammered which shows I have hit a few things with them. Only two weeks back I was up at Lidsdale and hit a tree a speed directly with my right foot. Hurt like hell, ripped my foot off the peg and speared me across the track into the bush. After the initial pain subsided with me limping and swearing on the side of the trail no further damage.

I also have a set of middle of the range Fox boots that I havn’t worn since getting these.

As the others have pointed out get the best boots you can afford. If these are all you can afford right now they will be way better than your road boots.

PS, mine also came with a free set of Sixsixone boot socks which have been great.

Cheers guys. The missus asked my brother for directions to Ballards for tomorrow morning and when he found out what I was after he has offered me a pair of his young blokes old Tech 3 ??? or something like that. He has about 4 pairs of boots so I should be able to get hold of a pair for nix. I haven’t heard of the Answers Fraser boots and figured any MX boot has to be better than the road boots I’ve been using. Cheers Fez.

    No Worries Fex,
Thats what OBT is good for, no nonsense opinions etc plus the usual banter

BTW Ballards will ship to ya door or ya can do C.O.D at your nearest Post Office!
They are very quick too with all purchases.
I had my gear next day from Sydney to Newy, no worries

Cheers & Good Luck, whichever way you go

Post a pic of your pixie boots Fez, i wish i had my camera at Coffs I would have taken a picture

It’s good that you can get some boots for nothing. I haven’t had any but the Fox range seem pretty good and lots of people sport them in the bush :)

I would post a picture for you Moto but the only one I could find was one when I wore them as part of a Pirates costume with tights and stuff, and if I put that one up you would have to much fun with it. :P :P Fez. :P :P
