Well I have been questioning the 2 year warranty for sometime, I cant understand why there are so few Huskies around when they seem like a good thing, the price is right and they have this amazing two year warranty.

But maybe the warranty isn’t worth a knob of goats sh*t. I just got of the phone with Mal5.1 and he still doesnt have his bike back, it has had a failure the same as a few 300 two smoking Huskies according to a few web sites. It has less than 8 hrs on it and is really looked after.

Why does it take 5 weeks in this day and age to approve a warranty claim, I work in the industry it shouldn’t take that long. Now that his claim has been approved they are now only ordering the parts?? Wouldn’t the parts have been ordered at the start regardless of who is paying because when a decision is made they will be needed? Now Mal has to wait another 2 weeks for the parts to come in.

The bikes to remain under warranty have to be serviced by a licensed mechanic adding to the cost of maintaining the bike somewhat, with all this in mind and given the time Mal has had to wait I ask again, is the warranty worth the paper its written on?

I here wikdbeemer is having some issues with warranty at the moment too. My opinion may be skewed by past experiences but generally warranty issues are a pita regardless of the party supplying the warranty.

Did Mal have the opportunity to cover it up front then argue down the line or would that have led to a case of “you paid ergo you admit fault/responsibility”

I reckon it is. My dealer doesn’t need me to drop it back every five minutes for a service and when I had a small problem they took to part off the demo immediately and had me back out there. The warranty system may not be perfect but who else is offering it???

I believe Bemmers problem is that he didnt do the 70hr service which is all but and engine rebuild  so now they are saying you voided it

That’s good to know Kram140, I am only asking is all, and I dont know any other manufacturer that offers a warranty like it as you say.

I know Tiny has had some speedo problems they looked after easily if I remember right

Mal’s isn’t the first drama I have heard of by the way I am just asking, opening debate

I hear what you’re saying TB. When you are talking about warranties I reckon there will always be good and bad experiences. The only thing I’d add is that I would never buy a bike for its warranty

Yesthis is true TB but in all fairnes they have been good for warranty claims so far and have also said the rest of the bike is still covered, just not the motor :(

OUCH! Loose link mentioned he was waiting for some bits (speedo?) for his husky. As long as it doesn’t stop you enjoying it I suppose!

I spoke to a mechanic at a local yamaha shop, he used to work for a husky dealer and he reckons you only get the 2 years warranty if you do a full rebuild (including bottom end) after the first year. I dont know this bloke or how genuine he is but i guess its something else to consider.

The crux of this problem I believe TB is that some motorcycle distributors really don’t believe they should be lumbered with warranty, they wish to live in the 19th century and do as they always have and put the onus of proof on the purchser. I have had this problem going back to 1979, and yet to met a dealer where it’s been “OK we’ll take care of that, it’s obviously a problem with the bike” even when it is blatantly obvious it was manufacturing or assembly issues.

This is what soured me on Yamahas for 28 years, it soured me on Kawasaki and almost on suzuki, and they were roadbikes.

Motorcycle distributors and dealers should be taking a leaf out of the electrical and whitegood industry, loyalty is high and warrantees are almost to a fault honoured immediately.

EG: Bought a brand spanking new hoover 7.5 k washing machine in 1999, three weeks later it stopped, rang dealer that afternoon a new one was delivered and installed, old one carted away, and the replacement still lives in our laundry, and we have bought several otehr hoover branded items from that exact dealer.
This is what will inspire customer loyalty and repeat business, Now Paul Feeney is the national boss of Husky Australia and in my dealings with him over the years have always found him personally to be an honourable Bloke, but this is not the first instance I have read about, maybe it’s somewhere in between the dealers and him, or maybe the old “blame them above” mentality that lazy people love to use.

The BMW mechanic said the 450 motor is like 1 cylinder of a F1 car, only designed to do 70hrs before a new piston, rod and crankshaft are needed.
Now I’m thinking of joining the 650 contingent!

WTF you are kidding, replace what, maybe the whole bike  How many klms does it have on it for the 128 hrs you have done?

Wow!! that’s harsh, what Einstein thought that was good idea, I mean nice bikes and all, but they don’t exactly blitz the others in power output or real world performance so surely they could engineer the engines to be understressed and get longevity out of major components like the crank, holey Moley.

Sorry I forgot, the manual also says to replace the exhaust valves “due to high thermal loads”.

    I kid you not.

I was told none of this when I bought it except that there was a “major service” required I think.

    TB: just over 6000KM.
