Was talking to a bloke at work whos kids are into mx and neighbours same, any way neighbours door is busted open in the middle of the night they go into garage find 85 mx bike gone, square link chain on the floor, top $ padlock untouched and they notice chains not cut and slight dents in chain from bolt cutters. Then they see blue dust on the floor and realize frames been cut and bent open. Can’t suggest much but maybe go through a few times might help.
October 23, 2009 at 1:06 am #157701I always run them through the bike near the carby as opposed to the subframe. It would stuff the bike completely if they had to cut through there. But that is a fine example of what lowlifes will go to to take your beloved bike.

AnonymousJebus Christ. You cant have nothing these days as long as there is this type of scum lurking around. What next we will have to lock our bikes in a steel container in a locked shed. I am now at a loss of how to stop the ar$eholes, now that they now just cut your frame instead of the chains and locks.

Mamma Mia, I reckoned someone might be desperate enough to do that, but never heard of it actually done, our are like icks, and between the triples as well, another spot is the linkage cutout in the swingarm run the kryptonite wire/chain through there.
Alarmed shed and three wandering Hounds that the delivery bloke told me today he doesn’t like going near the back fence because of.
At a loss as to what else can be done.

October 23, 2009 at 4:34 am #157702At work had plenty of time to discuss the pro’s and cons of cutting the frame but came to the conclusion they would just re weld and ride it into the ground until replacement time i.e stealing time and dump the old one, when the thing siezes.

October 23, 2009 at 5:42 am #157703Obviously they just want the bike for parts…. The frame would be ditched once they strip it anyway I guess..

Chris.October 23, 2009 at 8:06 am #157761not a problem for a decent boily Mick. thats half the problem, there’s many a “decent” person out there would weld it for a few quick bucks. until our courts start acting as courts insteads of counsellors, the issue wont go away. Our boys in blue are at loose ends, they catch them, the magistrate gives them a kiss and hug. Keep the insurance up lads. not much else we can do that works.

i’m going to send off a retail request form and see how much it is going to cost.
October 23, 2009 at 8:55 am #157768I can introduce you to two mates of mine that lost thier cars( both HSV) , they were DATADOTTED, no one has come back with anything after a couple of years. Put the money into full comprhensive insurance. At the least, you get a bike to ride agian, instead of a report. Also, a big dog does wonders.

wonder what the recovery ratio is?
i have sent off the request, i’ve been interested in the pro’s and con’s of their system since i read about it in a Mag.
some insurer’s give you a reduced premium if you have the DOT or other systems in use, well that was few yrs back when the article was about.
don’t know about now.
October 23, 2009 at 9:49 am #157782well, if it’s been stolen for the “wrecker” market.. it works. If it’s been stolen for Joy riding..its not much use. Then there’s those who steal for backyard “upgrades”.. basically the idea is Datadot stops the “vehicle being broken down for Spareparts in the Wrecker Industry” though.IMHO, our Courts work with the Insurance system. They let “baggers” off because it keeps the Industry in the forefront of peoples mind.just my outlook though.
October 23, 2009 at 6:36 pm #157790A little while back I was offered a “cheap” XR 600,on close inspection it was noticed, it had the engine numbers crossed out with a chisel or the likes.Ol mate assured me he hadn’t pinched it and it was like that when he swapped it for something else ,Thanks but no thanks,no matter how cheap, I wouldn’t touch it, out of principle.Somewhere down the track, that was someones pride and joy and I am not gunna support the stolen bike industry.
If you are offered cheap stuff, give it some thought before you support the thieving pricks.
One day it could be your bike being offered cheap. -
