This is an idea I have come up with to get some riding in! I have a new baby as most of you would be aware, and work has been flat stick. This has meant that I haven’t had a ride since the Coona Pony Express and it is bloody killing me!!

So the solution I have come up with is to have a ride local(ish) to me and bring the mountain to muhammed so to speak!

    The general idea:

All riding grade 3-4 but help will be offered and photos taken if anyone gets stuck!

Saturday – Early ride at Catombal to beat the heat. We should be able to cover most trails there by lunchtime or so. Riding is all single track, steep to undulating hills through thick pine forest, like Louee but less chopped up and tougher I think. Afternoon spent at the ECKS house in the pool with beers and BBQ laid on.

Sunday – Another early ride at my parents farm, “Wallareen” at Yeoval, about 40km west of Wellington. This country is granite hills, quite steep and challenging in places and the tracks will be either brand new or works in progress, depending on how much I can get done between now and the date.

Finish time about lunchtime so that those travelling can get away unless there is enough keen to continue.

Rego for the bikes isn’t required for either venue.

Accommodation available at ECKS’ house, camping, swag on the floor, whatever. Workshop facilities for any running repairs and some undercover parking. The bikes can be locked up at night for security.

Wellington is about 4 hours from Newcastle, 3 hours from Tamworth, 4-5 hours from Sydney, depending on where you are located at that end of the world.

Mrs ECKS also thought that partners and kids might like to come along. She won’t come to Catombal, maybe to the farm, but would love some company if any families wanted to tag along.

I am looking for expressions of interest and will put up a thread with the final details once we have it nutted out.

    So, anyone keen?

    So far we have:

    ECKS
    JRD
My mate Joel and maybe a +1 or +2

This should be a good one, and we have fallbacks if either venue isn’t suitable.

Yes mate, both places are kid-friendly. Catombal has the mini bike track and the learners loops and the farm is quite open in places, we could cut in a simple grass track with a mower no problem.

    Double bump!

I spent some time yesterday cutting in some tracks at Wallareen… hooo boy, if you love twisty stuff through trees then picking your way through rocks, this will float your boat bigtime! I’m keen to get back and cut some more in, it was that much fun! Slow work but!

So, any more starters? I’d like a few more before I contact Catombal about booking the park for the day.

C’mon Old Bulls, this one is not to be missed!! B)

Is it to be expected to be worth 8 hours in the car?
On a good note I could have a Monday RDO worked up by then.
I like hills for hilling, semi open for drift and being a pest for fun.

Mate, its riding somewhere different with a top bunch of blokes, drinking piss, talking crap – Of course it is worth 8 hours drive!

In all seriousness, Catombal has some of the best tracks I’ve seen, challenging to say the least! And the Wallareen riding will be a blast, well worth a visit!

Wello is nothing special, but the company and the riding is what this is about! (Nice try though Rocket!!)

Getting close to final calls… anyone else gonna put up their hand?
