Yep i’ve done similar manouvres… of course wholly untentionally and without planning then pain relief as a chaser.

I could do that….just landing would be the problem

Landing is the part I always manage. Its having the wheels under me that presents the problem.

In all seriousness my cousin used to fancy himself as the next pastrana and was silly enough to pull the big jumps until he had two serious incidents. The first was a can-can only he couldn’t get his leg back over and a copper that saw it happen thought he would’ve been dead from the impact. Next big one finished him, came up short on a big set of triples and smashed both feet and ankles :(

Nice pics Trent, how good do they look when they do that? I can see that ‘scrubbing’means less time in the air and therefore more time on the ground driving you forward. But…….wouldn’t it take a lot of energy to flick the bike like that, surely you can cut the height of the jump by pushing down on the bars so is this just for show?

I was watching the Parramatta SX on the TV the other night and noticed that even during the race the riders whip the back out on the big tabletops, if that’s just for show, which it certainly seems to be, why do it in a race?

    Paging Mr Rat!

I don’t think it takes a lot of effort from what I’ve read its just leaning/turning as you approach the lip and turning it back to flatten out. Of course those are just words and executing it would be another story :p

I reckon unloading the suspension wouldn’t have enough effect due to the speeds they’re carrying through the bigger jumps.

The effort I dont think is the issue these guys are so fit, the effort against the lap times means it has to happen

Unloading the suspension wont do enough, try it on the next windrow you dont want to jump to far on, yet still hit it at full speed unloading your suspension and see what happens. With scrubbing they still carry full speed to the take of ramp

I have tried it myself but just assumed that I am not a top MX rider so probably aren’t really doing it well enough anyway.

    Points taken though :)
