OK so a couple of weeks ago after my operation Chicken decided my recovery would hurriedly along somewhat if I replaced and re-rimed a set of wheel for him.

Now you have to understand Chicken’s theory regarding his bike, his favourite saying is “it’s not an aeroplane” Whatever that means

He gets his money worth the thrifty bugger out of all his gear especially his wheels. Anyone one on the aborted Denman ride would remember him riding his bike up to Putty roadhouse with a somewhat buckled front wheel

So I gave him a set of rims that came with my XR (silver stock items) and because he had broken so mane spokes in the Denman crash he purchased a set of new spokes for the front that I relaced today. I have never fitted a new set of spokes only ever changed rims not rims and spokes at the same time, what a head case that is.

The remaining spokes in the wheel where all seized so out came the grinder and happy days

Then the head case started, I was quick to learn the hard way you have to fit the spokes a certain way or you get to a point and they wouldn’t go in BLOODY HELL!!
Then I couldn’t work out which side was the right way for the new 2nd hand rim was to go around, anyway after a couple of failed attempts I got it.

Then into the wheel stand the Dan built for me

Then a couple of beers, Cascade Blondes and finished product

I still have his rear to do but will need a spoke set, look at this quality item would you

And here is the rim that I gave him to go on the new hub

While I was in the shed I thought I would true up and get my spare set of wheels ready because I am lending them to Mick so he can run around out Gingers Creek etc helping get the route ready for the Syd-Bris ride. Although it has since occurred to me that by the time he swaps the discs over on both wheels and the sprocket etc it would be better to change the tyres really

    Finished spares

And a rim lock in the rear Mick but didn’t have one for the front

Yes, The Big Fella has a habit of being tough on wheels :P
I remember the sight of him riding along Putty Rd quite well as I had been sent back to pick him up with the trailer, I was support vehicle that day.
Thanx to Chicken, my support role was made worth while I actually had to support someone

Was it Chicken or Crash that damaged the front wheel before mrning tea on Day 2 of the Hill End ride ?? I think it was Crash, still it was memorable as well
