I arrived at castle Moto at 06:45 to see him strutting around fully clad!
I suspected he slept outside in his gear but he only slightly dismissed this so I’m happy to assume it was true..Off at some time later to maccas.
Through some nice stuff near there and over towards nelson bay road.
Onto the power line track.
Through the single track which by the looks gets just as much of a flogging as moto’s “ring piece” did over the 2 days (I suggested lube for the 2nd day but he seemed to think blood would be sufficient).
Then back to the power line track, up a rather decent sand incline (a first for me I think) and onward to the end of the track.
Moto than stated “you can go have a look along the track next to the road”.
I did, very fun but 3 Kms later no Moto.
“I realised I didn’t actually say to come back…”
We then met a local (Geoff) who guided us over and onto the dunes.
The first proper dune we went onto was AWESOME!! Nothing else like it.
Followed Geoff around for a good few hours sight seeing and the like then he headed home.
Moto and I went to get fuel and anna bay and a coke.
Then back in.
This time we rode the actual dunes! (Geoff kept us on the smaller stuff closer to the beach).
That was an education for me and a priceless comedic performance to watch Moto’s!
7 yes that’s right folks 7! Over the bars excursions in as many minutes!!
Needless to say I spent half the afternoon laughing my arse off in a fit.
After 4 or 5 Moto was getting sick of this, but I wasn’t going to be stopping because he was fat. I pulled out the “ifs” and got the rest out of him.
The 2nd best part (1st obviously the event itself) was that at least 2 of the soft spots that got him I rode through less then half a metre from where he lay.
This was the most hilarious thing I’ve seen I believe.
There was all sorts! Head first over the bars into the sand, end’o look a likes, all funnier then the last.
Up and down the dunes was awesome, nothing else like it and extremely enjoyable!December 6, 2009 at 9:04 am #164089Diddel wrote:

Well it was a safer option then Moto’s suggestion of his own blood!

AnonymousOn Sunday Diddel arrived at my place at 7am and we had geared up and ridden down the road by 7:30am. The plan had changed and we decided to scrap Medowie and do some of the local trails about 1Km from my house.
I had only really been in there once before and when we got going I quickly realized they were great trails, lots of mini whoops that can be taken at speed, flowing grippy corners and little trails diving off left right and centre. Having made our way through this bush section we found a little horse trail that followed a creek and led back to the Nelson Bay Road right at the roundabout that we needed to turn off to get into the bush tracks and Dunes near Anna Bay.
This worked out very well as we would have ridden less than 2 K’s of tar to get there from my front door! We rode a few of the sand single tracks which were very taxing, especially on my sore arse from the day before!
We had a play on a sand hill and I let some air out of my tyre which seemed to help the bald Metzeler 6 Days get some purchase. Not long after we chatted with another dude out on a KTM400 called Geoff. He was a top bloke and offered to take us into the dunes and show us around. After weaving through some more tacks we shot up a steep sand hill and into the dunes. Almost immediately we were doing big sweeping arcs up the side of this big dune, me and Diddel loved it, it was awesome fun!
Geoff took us for a spin and he could really ride for an older guy, he wasn’t hanging around and we we’re hooning along. He lives on the Bay road and has been riding there for 30 years. He was obviously having fun too as we decided to rip down to Tin City and check out the shacks. On arrival we had stopped for no more than 30 seconds when we decided to head further South to the Sygna wreck.
Again making good pace down there I was having a ball jumping off the dunes and the scrub and weaving in and out the bushes. We stopped at the wreck at the top of a beachside dune overlooking the whole area when a couple of coppers on DRZ’s came over and parked up to chat with us. Initially I thought I might be in trouble as my beach pass is for my 450, my number plate had snapped off last ride and my drivers license was in the car
They asked if we were rego’d and how the smoker went on the sand and that was about it, they were in that rare group of coppers that were actually okay (the ones on here are included in that group too
).
Eventually we made our way back and said goodbye to Geoff who was going home for lunch so me and Diddel headed back up the beach to Anna Bay for fuel and drink at the Tavern. We had a bit of break here and chatted to the locals before saddling up and heading back out for a play in the ‘big’ dunes. We had a ball in these, but getting traction to pull away was often hard going.
Diddel loved the next 1.5 hours as we played in the dunes because he got to watch me go over the hangers SEVEN times in the space of an hour. Yes I did say 7 times, one of them knocking the wind out of me hitting the bottom of this steep hill flat stick in 2nd gear and just stopping dead  My forks blow through the stroke (due to my burly frame) so when we hit a real soft patch I would be catapualted off the bike which Diddle thought was extremely funny.
on a couple of occasions the whole front wheel of my bike was buried and the back wheel was stuck in the air being held on by the front wheel in the sand and took both of us to pull it out!
After the 7th somersault I wanted to head down to the fast stuff again and make our way back. We got back to my house at 3pm, I washed the bike and packed up, had a laugh about the weekends events and waved Diddel off home.
It was a really fun weekend and I had a ball riding the 300. For some reason I felt more at home on the 300 this weekend and loved riding it. It’s definitely more fun than my 450 and now I think I like it more….who’d have thought
