AnonymousSeeing no one else has put a report up yet I will be the first.
Moto’s Saturday ride – the morning session.
Saturdays ride was one that I thought maybe I shouldn’t be going on given Friday nights effort in the shed.
I thought maybe I would do some pre ride checks and just make sure everything was OK.
Put in a clean air filter that’s all good except for the crap that had got past the air filter after last ride (Westy to nowhere 2) decided to start the WR to check the oil, I hit the button – NOTHING, that OK the battery was flat never mind, go to the kicker. Kick, Kick, Kick – NOTHING. Fuels on, chokes out. Give it another go – NOTHING. Starting to feel a bit aggravated now, I know I will clutch it down the street. Roll off down the drive way, second gear pop the clutch – NOTHING. Push it back up the street put it in the shed, have a beer, text Moto tell him I am a no go. Go inside with the shits, get a text back from Moto, text back Moto, go back out into shed to have another look, Moto rings, speak to him for a bit diagnosing over the phone. Decided to check the plug for spark, off with the seat and tank, pulled out the spark plug, checked it, there was spark but not that great, tried a new plug, that’s better, put the plug back in, tank and seat back on, kick it in the guts, giddy up I am a goer, text Moto tell him I am back in, Moto texts back alls good FOR NOW.
Why not put some spray down the clutch cable, yeah that’s a good idea, pull the clutch in work the lever a few times while spraying the cable, SNAP, broken clutch cable.
F#@K ME – look at bikes in the shed for a donor cable, WR250R totally different, NX650 totally different, DRZ400 looking promising, pull the seat and tank off the DRZ hold the broken WR450 cable next to the DRZ shit I am on a winner here. Take the cable out of the DRZ, fit it up, bugger me it works. Put the tank and seat back on the WR, woo hoo I am back. Now lets give that hot start lever a bit of a spray as well. Pull the lever in, it sticks in wont come out. F@#k F@#k F@#k. Off with the tank and seat again, look where the cable goes, shit this all looks to hard. Work the lever a few more times with a bit of spray, hey presto it starts working again. Happy days. I am going for a ride. Looking at the time 12.30am – shower and to bed.
I am not superstitious, BUT after all this crap I was thinking that maybe all of this was a sign not to go.Saturday morning get up, get ready, get fuel and out to the meeting spot. On the way WR is coughing and carrying on, must be my pre filter that I put in. Open the airbox door and bang she is back to life. Get to the golf course, rip the pre filter out and say hello to all.
This is the extent of Motos maintenance
There was five of us all up with me in the lead, we took off and hit the bush. I was leading the morning session so I wanted to take everyone on some of my favourite local tracks. The pace was good, with no real need for cornermen or sweep. We peddled through some nice singles and then onto some more open stuff before hitting the singles again.
A brief stop before hitting the singles again.
We were heading towards the gap for smoko, the track that we were going used to be decent but since the last time I rode it a grader has been through and stuffed it. It is now like a four laned highway (with drainage humps).
We got to the Gap servo with not too many stacks, I know that I made up for a lot of them on the day, with a few minor lay downs.
I briefly swapped bikes with Moto on the way to the Gap, man those 2 smokes have got some punch in them. But no bloody engine brake.
When we got to the Gap everyone went and got a drink and sat down to cool down.
Moto had a bag of Jack Links beef jerky – Good stuff that Jack Links and a proud sponsor of Old Bulls.I decided to take a few pics of Diddels steed after hearing about some of his repairs / enhancements.
Quality wiring job
Rear guard
Juice container and gaffa tape – who needs a side cover
But in all fairness to Diddel and his bike, it kept going all day and Diddel was pretty much behind me all morning. After leaving the Gap we headed towards some more sweet single trail. We got to do one of my favourite local tracks which someone has spent a bit of time arrowing and it is obvious that a lot of other people are riding it now as it is cut in beautiful. We nailed this loop and everyone had smiles on their faces. I did have a few more minor offs through this bit, with Moto cleaning me up after I stalled on a hill. Sorry Moto.
It was only 10.00am so I still had an hour or so. I knew of another track that I thought the boys would like. We headed up towards Mount Sugarloaf and veered off near the top. The track that we were going to do was one that Kylie and me hit on one of our RDO rides, except when we did it, it was very wet and slippery. The problem that me and Kylie had was that we had gone down to far to go back up. On Saturday it was far from being wet but it still had parts that were slippery cause of the dry. When we got to the bottom we re-grouped and carried on. The last time that I did this track I turned right on Saturday we turned left. I had never been up this track so I didn’t know what to expect. This trail ended up being pretty good, there was one hill that everyone had a few cracks at. When we got back to the top we weren’t that far from where we went in.
I had hit reserve shortly after getting out from this track, so I decided to call it a day and go home.
I totally enjoyed Saturdays ride and this was definitely my last ride for the year.Dan
I do have to thank Moto for offering up his 450 Kato if I couldn’t get the WR going. He even offered to come down to my place early Saturday morning if I needed a hand with anything. Thanks Moto – true Old Bull spirit.
December 6, 2009 at 9:42 am #164103a quickk bit before bed.
turned up at 7.15 am to find moto diddel and the crew
pick the diddle ????
rode some familiar tracks and some which had been graded as Dan mentioned. Dan then led up a hill near Killingworth which last time i was there didnt lead any where. a great hill would be even better if it went somewhere. Very steep and loose
Dan and Moto tried it
December 6, 2009 at 9:49 am #164104then across towards the gap. Murph knows this hill.
Moto and i swapped bikes for a bit to see how they compared. when we arrived at the hill this is what we saw.
there were bikes every where
Dusty,Diddle and Dan trying to get up to no avail on first go.
we all got up and then through some single
Leader down
rest to follow tomorrow

AnonymousI must add that I only rode until 11.00am due to lack of fuel and having to get home before 12.
So someone else will have to add to mine and tf2’s report.
December 6, 2009 at 10:50 am #164119Sounds like you had a few issues the night before there Dan
Big call from Moto to lend his 4fiddy
I take back everything I ever said about him
Oh yeah I never said anything against him. Not anything I remember anyways
I cant believe that was your last ride for the year Dan
Although if the moons and worlds align (ie temperatures stay cooler or more rain falls :woohoo: :woohoo: ) I will be back out again next weekend :side:
Dan will have to extend the “Westy to nowhere ride” further south from the gap where it really gets sick :X
Maybe next time bro
Cheers
MurphWOW that was harder than I thought it would be, all this typing and shit  :S
But to my credit I have posted something that was not dribble?? with only 1 inch left in the bottle of you know what :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:December 6, 2009 at 11:16 am #164105After the weak went home, (tf2) I’m sure tryhard had a good excuse, Moto and I went off again.
Over towards sugy and up a few of the ridges leading to the top in search of my old motel room.
Found the track to it then made our way up a rather tricky little bit of step up for the level of adrenalin I could scavenge. This lead up to the ridge road and went from there down a retired single to look at a cave. Then meandered back.
On return the highlight was Moto crashing while attempting to ride onto his trailer   .December 6, 2009 at 11:22 am #164139Diddel wrote:

It was almost as funny as his overbar acrobatics if that helps put it into perspective.
Some golfers may have also seen it tho I didn’t hear and roaring laughter so I guess not.December 6, 2009 at 11:30 am #164141Seriously looks like such a great ride, cant wait to get back on my bike

AnonymousIt certainly was an interesting and tiring weekend! I thought Dan was going to be a no show after his Friday night antics, I was watching the new harry Potter drinking (too much) wine and getting live updates from Dan, I felt sorry for him having to mess with his bike so late in the evening but to his credit he persevered and made it.
I was second to arrive at the meet point and saw tryhard waiting. The other guys rolled up one by one and not long after we were ready to go. Dan feeling happy he’d left an oily bit of filter and a can of mother to litter my trailer
There were 6 of us all up and we made a great pace through the bush as everyone was a similar level, I knew it was going to be a good ride from here. We hit heaps of awesome single trail and had a crack at some good hills too. The singles that we did (Dan knows the ones I mean) are probably my favorite local single trails short of the ones at Orange or some of the ones I did at Wauchope.
We rode on meandering through the bush this way and that until the morning was drawing to a close, at this pointy we said good bye to Dan and he shot off down towards Wakefield on his way back home. TF2 then took the reigns and we did heaps more single track, dual trails and some great hills. It was funny watching him pull hard and try and rip his helmet off when one a black looking wasp thing flew into helmet, I thought this was pretty funny and the little bug didn’t look friendly.
It was only a couple of kays down the road when the same thing happened to me, except it felt like something massive was buzzing around my face in my helmet. Doing about 50Km/h I was riding with no hands frantically trying to get my goggles off and this thing out of face. The inevitable happened and I ended up my arse sliding down the gravel road still trying to get my damn goggles off. Tryhard was behind me and saw it all to the point where I rolled into the road and he did well not to ride over me! I could feel skin missing from my arm, hip and arse but there was no point in brooding over it so we just carried on.
We eventually arrived back at the cars at about 1pm and waved off Tryhard and TF2, dusty had left just after Dan. With only me and Diddel left I knew he wanted to keep riding so after some deliberation of what we were going to do we set off again, got some fuel in town and headed back the bush.
We did some great singles just off from where I Dan takes us over the wooden bridge and headed North (ish) from there. We must have been riding MTB trails because they were very tight and on more than one occasion we rode over a wire mesh bridges that had no wooden supports!!!
We made our way up one of the Sugarloaf ridges and decided to go back down in an effort to find Diddels overnight camp spot on the next ridge over. After some more nice single trail we got to a long rocky uphill that would be a good test when you are fresh so me and Diddel agreed we’d come back another day.
As we sat and had a break Diddel told me the next section of hill was pretty tricky and after a look round the corner it didn’t look easy. I watched Diddel have a good crack on the first attmpt but he didn’t make it. I went back down from my view point and had a go, making it up first time, which was lucky for me as I wasn’t in the mood to be pulling my bike off a rock face. After riding faultlessly the whole day Diddel made a meal of this hill and got it on the 4th go.
Once up we continued on and made our way via some other hills and tracks back to the general direction of the cars. by the time we arrived it was just short of 5pm. A long day considering we started riding at 7:30am.
I tried to ride my bike up onto the trailer but the crappy ramp I have bent leaving my front wheel to drive straight into the back of my trailer and I fell off the side, a funny crash at the end of the ride!
I had a great day and rode lots of new great trails, the company was good (as always) and I’m keen to get back and do another one. Me and the Diddelmeister will likely back between Chrizza and new year if anyone’s keen
December 6, 2009 at 10:42 pm #164169Great report Moto sounds like gang busters of fun. When a read about your trailer incident the first thing that came to mind was you ultra light ramp  Would also have loved to have tryhards view of the wasp / bug thing I hate it when that happens or big spiders in a web that I seem the always score as leader
Alls good that ends good but am very jealous but not long to go now
Did you skin your self bad mate?
And how was Medowie?TB
