Just looking for an expression of interest for the Wingham welding bike carrier – he’s offered to do them for $380ea +postage if we buy 5 and so far I have 2. I haven’t asked about combined postage but I imagine it should also bring the price down. As per the site Freight is $70 to all Aust city, excluding perth.

These come with lights and wiring for a 7pin plug so all you’d have to do is get a number plate if yours is obscured. I’ve also been recommended to drill and tap a hole in the hitch receiver to tighten up the carrier. For those interested you’ll need to check what the tongue load is on your car/towbar.

There’s cheaper versions out there without lights but I think $380 with lights is great and I don’t have room for a trailer.

Sing out if you’re interested B)

I made one several years ago, copied it from a another make.It carried my WR400 pretty easily on the back of my Old Magna. The shocks had to be uprated I had air adjustables. I like them for their simplicity but would not use them for carrying a bigger bike again. I think they are more suited to the smaller kids bikes. They would work best if fitted to a large 4×4.

Thats my opinion from my experience – personally Id prefer a ute.

I have a ute and I’d prefer the carrier :p

My triton ute is bloody high to load in and out of and I lose the tray with the bike in it and I can’t easily put the tray cover on and off so no security.

I’ve put up with the tray for a year and I’m either getting the carrier or an easy trailer in the near future. If I had the room it’d be a good box trailer no questions asked but I don’t.

I agree though, you need to consider that you’ll have 120kgs odd hanging off your tow bar which is substantial.

I have been reluctant to share my point of view here because you have done the leg work with the manufacturer and got the whole bulk buy happening and I know that’s never easy for lots of reasons.

I have seen the aftermath years ago of a bike falling of one of these. The tie downs have no angle and thus when the safety strap comes loose or fails the bike rocks and well this one fell off :( Rooted was never fixed

Also as you said it is 120kgs plus the weight of the rack itself, then you have the extra force as it goes up and down its a hell of a lot. I agree with Ollie about smaller bikes maybe and I appreciate your lack of room Trent and again the effort of making things happen ;) Yeah that ute of yours is bloody high

Mate I’d rather a wasted a phone call than a wasted bike. The tow pack on the triton is good for 2.5t plus I think so I don’t think the tongue weight would be a problem but the way I drive on the way to rides might be :)

I haven’t really received a lot of interest regardless so I’ll just hold off until I can justify an easy trailer. Loading my ute is doable (usually) its just an inconvenient way to keep doing it. Perhaps I should just get off my arse and sell my pod braces and that’ll just about pay for an easy trailer!

AB, just a thought, would you have room for a box trailer, if you could stand it up on it’s tail gate to store it?

if you had a space you could push it to and have a bracket on a post, you could use a pulley to lift it up onto it’s tail gate and chain it into position.

maybe if it had lift out sections in the floor and removable front gate it would take out some weight. as i know not all of us can stand a normal 6×4 on it’s end on their own

yeah, yeah i know i’ve just made a simple issue into a complicated one.

    but what’s new?!?! :silly:

but if you would be interested in a custom build send us a PM and can go from there.
