Today was a family day out to visit the parents that are down from Yamba at the moment. We found ourselves flat out like lizards drinkin` at Mungo Brush on the Myall LakesHere is a bit of a pictorial of the days events,,,,,
A view of the lakeside picnic area
The kids had a frolic in the cool water
While the adults did some kind of Bench Racing
Chicken`s Mate was there for a visit
Meet SCRUB TURKEY
And he brought his mate Plucker
Then they were both chased off by Lenny the Lizard
So then we had some lunch which included some FRESH Myall River Prawns that were freshly caught during the night
Notice that Ash topped hers off with some Salt & Vinegar ChipsThat was followed by a short stroll along a nice cool shady walking track that had a couple of nice loops of fresh virgin single in it
Sort of wished I HAD ONE OF THOSE ELECTRIC TRIALS BIKES IN HEREThere were some steep little pinches, but as usual the camera on the phone doesn`t show them real well,,,
Me & the old man retired to the back of the cruiser for a cold beer
While the women & kids did some more Bench Racing it the shade of the annexe
That`s about it really, except for the drive back south to Newy, which included a stopoff at Maccas for a Vanilla Thickshake & some Sundaes
All in all a nice relaxing day out with the family, some brownie points scored (I think)

December 12, 2009 at 9:20 am #165027went camping up there a fair bit as a kid catching prawns, swimming, gettin towed behind ski boat etc.
the goanas are pretty friendly up there. when i was 18 we did a trip up there, cooked a full leg of lamb in the ashes almost kiwi hungi style. we finsished the meat off the leg then a 2 metre goanna took of with the full bone. it climbed up a tree like in your pic with the bone and swallowed the whole bone which was a full lamb leg, fimur and calf swallowed most of it then choked and spewed it out on to my mates hilux from 6 or so metres up leaving a huge dint in his roof.

December 12, 2009 at 9:56 am #165041Funny Goanna story tf2!!
Eagle, that place looks nice, I had heard of Mungo Brush but had never been there. I always imagine riding the walking trails when I am in places like that. Those big broad fan leaf palms in the pics have the mother of all thorns on them though  Wouldn’t want to get outa shape and plough into a grove of them suckers :S Thanks for sharing your pics.
December 12, 2009 at 10:49 am #165046hey beages,,,as a Dad you rock

But the Old Man told me that the day before we went there, the goannas were wrestling at the water`s edge and actually dragging each other in to hold down in attempts to drown each other  Even shoving their opponent in under the undercut bank on the edge to get a better dominant position :S
Nasty Stuff I reckon
