well the saga of the wr250 f that won’t go continues.
i took it out of the shop it was in {they couldn’t be bothered ].got it home . now it only fires once when you jump on the kickstarter. had the shims, timing, stator tested ‘ carb cleaned.
even if you give it a spray of aerostart if only fires once .
if there are any gurus out there who have smoe kind of clue i would be greatful.

You have covered all the things I would check. Wiring loom maybe?? Earth to coil?? Just grasping at straws here though.I am thinking electrics, maybe I am way off the mark.

The fact that is fires makes me think fuel delivery / supply.

If it was plug it wouldn’t fire you would think.
If it was timing it shouldn’t really fire

Without knowing much more other then what you wrote and whats been done if it was done correctly, yeah fuel

I’m basing my suggestion on experience with a loose ignition wire creating a weak spark.
So I suspect an even looser wire might mean even weaker spark?

Maybe Bruce, there is a guy in Orange that has one, spoke to him last week, it destroyed the gearbox and was going to cost $3k + to fix he was talking about wrecking it. It is definitely a kick start only as I have ridden it, will ring him this morning for you ;)

Check your kill switch is not earthing out on bar. Check gap on plug, try towing and see if it fires. Dan and I found out how spark gap can make a difference on the blue machines!!

    G,Day Bruce,
Maybe try another yami dealer, when my sons bike was originally busted they had trouble diagnosing the electrical fault’and only after swapping parts in the shop found it out. Which was lucky as i was just about to buy a part that wasn’t the culprit,so saved a few $ that way.
    Good luck any way mate.

+1 for checking the CDI and HT lead. Just because there is a spark visible doesn’t mean it’s good enough to go. I recently sorted an issue with my KTM200 that turned out to be a partial break in a wire from the CDI.

If it’s getting a weak spark try running a reduced spark gap to see if that helps get it going. Other than that the CDI itself could be the cause. have you checked the reg/rectifier for correct operation?

I found the intermittent wire thing by using a multimeter set to beep mode and moving the wire around. The beep wasn’t constant so I replaced.

Failing that fuel could be an issue, does the plug look bone dry after you’ve been kicking it over for a while? You would expect that it looks wet after a lot of kicking and no starting. A dry plug under these conditions could insinuate there is a fuel blockage somewhere.

Good luck with it, let us know how you get on.
