It won by a considerable margin too. I agree with TB, I am skeptical about mags decisons, but as far I can see no mag liked the KTM for motocross or Supercross before so it’s a good step forward for KTM.

If they made their parts cheaper it would be even better.

The other thing to consider is how reliable the report is when the people that test it state the compression damping atop the fork is very easy and tool less to adjust. Maybe it’s a typo or maybe they didn’t know they were adjusting the rebound as the compression is at the bottom :P

Or maybe KTM made it the opposite way round on the 2010 450 SX-F?

I read this article a few days ago (well the one page summary of it anyway as I am also a believer in that whoever pays the most gets the win) and what seemed a bit odd to me was that if the ktm was so much better why was it the (or one of the) least preferred bikes to ride on the track. Even though it had topped several of the criteria before that. I also thought having a score for looks was a load of crap. Who cares and it is a personal thing.

I know what you’re saying. It’s all about the bling. My reading between the lines took that to mean that all the bikes are that good and equal in ability that the only thing that you need to set them apart is which one looks the best to you.

Did anyone else read the whole 6 pages and wonder how the hell the assistamt editor came to the conclusion when david Armstrong (tester) didn’t really say anything good about it, he actually said he wanted the YZ???? he stated the KTMs suspension was choppy and harsh, and 3rd gear rolling start acceleration test??? WTF is that about, bloody roadbike warriors imposing dyno tests and rolling acceleration tests… yeah I’ll just cruise around in third and then when someone pulls up besides me we’ll do a roll-on in third around the MX track…

I don’t care which one wins, but at least make the parameters relative to the design criteria, they are MX bikes, the track test is where it’s at, not in a dyno room or how flashy it is to onlookers.
What’s next put a bunch of Navaras, hluxs, Colorados, tritons etc on eastern creek and rate them by how well they handle it?

Just goes to show the ability to put pen to paper doesn’t ensure a brain behind it

Computer went beserk and posted twice apparently, maybe it should lose a shootout even though it got 10/10 in actual performance….

Knew someone would call foul, fair enough with my bagging of PDS, but elsewhere I nominated a KTM for bike of decade. Actually Rocket me laddie I don’t really have too much brand loyalty I’ve owned most mainstream brands out there and a couple of highly obscure ones too, if any bike won on design and intended use criteria I say “good call” but you don’t judge an apple on it’s vitamin C content or how well it goes with vodka, I actually probably lean towards team yellow anyway, and notice they didn’t even include the new RMZ?.

I own a Yamaha because they made the last of the 2T MX based ADRed bikes with MX traits, if Zooki made the RMX 250 up til mid-ninties I woulda had one in a flash, and I’ll be convinced of this when i see a KTM with PDS attack the whoops and stutters as quickly as Chads or Bubbas do.

I have had the opinion for years now that these shoot outs are a bunch of crap and are written to suit the highest bidder in the advertising stakes, I have not seen an honest result in years…….I bet none of you saw that coming from me, Hey Guys ;) ;)

Next Wednesday I think it is, that one of the magazines, who’s name escapes me is doing a 7 bike 450 shootout at the HVMCC mx circuit. Would be interesting to watch I reckon. They have hired the circuit for the whole day and will be there at the Wednesday club practice arvo too.
