Sorry in advance for the long ride report.

So Eagle arrived nice and early (like he said he would) and we were able to leave home right on time. This was after a couple of calls to TB to find out if he was going to meet us for lunch like he said he would. I had a sneaking suspicion that TB would turn up at our house ready to leave with us but I was wrong.

We get down to the end of our street and I realize that we had left our directions at home. So I pull DanD over and ask him if we should go back and get them. ‘Nah it’ll be right’. Famous last words. I had sat down with him the night before and showed him the route and he said that he knew where we were going. So when he said we didn’t need the directions I thought we would be OK. Ha. Unfortunately it was at this point here that nearly resulted in TB having a real nasty accident. But I’ll get to that later.

So there was DanD, Eagle and myself and we set off for Freemans Waterhole and stopped there to get some choccies to keep our sugar levels up. Thankfully DanD’s new KLR has a ‘pod’ and a cooler bag can fit in it nicely so the choccies got chucked in with the cold cans of coke and the ice pack for later.

After stocking up our ‘Pod’ we head towards Cooranbong. DanD’s leading, with me and then Eagle. It’s along this part that I look in my mirror and see a red blur. Next thing I know TB has zoomed past me at a speed of 100 gazelles but yet still under the speed limit, of course.

He overtakes all three of us then disappears. I got DanD to lead because I don’t like the thought of slowing others up, even on the road. So we get to Cooranbong and DanD takes a wrong turn. We would have ended up at the same place but it made me realize that he had no idea of the planned route. At this point he gets a little bit cranky but we turn around anyway. Further up the road we finally meet up with TB and greetings are exchanged on the side of the road.

    P1070331Small.jpg

So we head off down Hue Hue Road and then towards Yarramalong. TB decides that because I posted the ride I need to lead and takes no notice of my plea that I have no idea where I am going because I had left the directions at home. ‘You’ll be right, just go to the end of the road and turn right’. Easy. I really enjoyed the ride along Hue Hue and into Yarramalong. It’s really very scenic.

This is DanD showing off his multitasking skills by taking pictures of me whilst riding behind me.

    P1070332Small.jpg
So I am happily riding through Yarramalong and miss TB’s hand signal behind me that I have missed the turn. D’oh! Anyway no big deal but they still want me to lead even though I can’t remember where we had to turn. We are then riding along Bumble Hill Rd I think when I see a familiar street sign from my directions so I put my blinker on and start to turn however DanD is too close behind me so he locks up the KLR and TB is riding along behind me but to the side and doesn’t realize that I am going to turn and when I do he has a big ‘oh shit’ moment. I see TB go flying past me and into the dirt on the opposite side of the road.
Anyway turns out it wasn’t the right way so once TB puts his heart back in his chest we continue on our way (with me still in the lead, haven’t they learnt yet?). But alls good from here because TB now goes ahead of me before the other turns and we have no more mishaps.
We stop at Mangrove Mountain to refuel, have a coke, a choccie and a smoke for DanD. We are probably up to the best part of the ride now which is the last 50kms to Wisemans Ferry.
After our break we head off (and they still want me to lead despite my protests). Along this last section there was a heap of bike swapping. All the boys swapped bikes at one time of another so they had a go of all of them. Yes TB let Eagle ride the 650. He was really impressed with it too. Once Eagle got on it he didn’t take long to pass me which reminded me of the time that I first rode it and how nothing was going to stop me from having a real good go of it. It was really good to see Eagle having fun on it though.
These were some photos that DanD took along that stretch of road.

We get to the ferry crossing and find that no there is no bridge to bridge race today thankfully and the ferry is there waiting for us. The temperature by this stage has really warmed up and whilst we are going across on the ferry with all our gear on and no shade we are really feeling it.
We arrive at Wisemans Pub for an early lunch and this is good because there is not a huge crowd there. Lunch is ordered as well as beers and rum for the boys . By this stage I think TB had done around 400kms or so because he had left home early then gone out along the Putty Road to Broke before meeting us. He wanted it to be a surprise so he found a section of road that he knew we would be travelling along and hid on the side of the road until we went passed. The goose, I don’t know how long he had to wait.
Lunch was yummy and when our tummy’s were full we bid farewell to TB and then headed off home again. We weren’t so lucky this time though and we had to wait a while for the ferry. It was really hot so we found somewhere to wait in the shade. Once again the ferry ride was really uncomfortable because there was no way to get away from the heat so we just had to wait until we reached the other side.
After we got across Eagle and I swapped bikes for a while. It was funny though because he was saying that his seat was hard but when I sat on it it felt like a plush arm chair. We continued for about 20 minutes and then he pulls over and gladly swaps back onto his bike because he was getting a numb bum on mine. I told you it was hard!
We stop back at Mangrove Mountain for fuel again and to sit in the shade for a while. This time though we head back along George Downes Drive toward Laguna. We then stop at the Wine Bar for a drink. Eagle and DanD opt for beer whilst I grab a Gatorade to replenish the fluid lost because it was just so hot.
    Here’s me at Laguna

Here’s Eagle and the OBT Super Commuter at Laguna
    P1070351Small.jpg
After being rehydrated we go back through Wollombi, Millfield, Sandy Creek Road, over the gap and home.
All up we did approx 320kms starting at 8:30 and getting back home at around 4pm. I had a great day. Thanks to Eagle, TB, and DanD for coming along and making it such an enjoyable day.

Whoa, What a Great Day !!!! :woohoo:

First of all Thanx to Kylie & Dan for the invite for this ride, it was well worth the wait.
And Thanx to TB for scaring the drap out of us, not once but twice on the road down to Wyee!!!
Big effort for the big fella to leae the Mountains so early & ride all the way round the Hunter to meet up with us & keep us company till lunchtime ;)

The run was a great cruise on the way down, with the usual stop offs for Dan to get in a ciggy, refuel at Mangrove Mountain & not to mention the multiple bike swaps  How much fun was that ???
Thanx guys for the rides on the KLR, the DR & believe it or not the Fiddy    yes Eagle rode the Mighty Fiddy B) Great bikes all three of `em

When we got to the Ferry it was a pleasing sight to see it just about ready for us to ride straight on,, and for once there were NO SPEEDBOATS 0r SKI RACERS to hold us uo from getting to the pub.
But boy was it hot in the sun on the crossing ????

What was with the two funny blokes we met & chatted to from Dunedoo ??? They were camping at St Albans & were a crap up every time they opened their mouths  Nice blokes

So after a scrumptious lunch, a cold beer & chewing the fat for about an hour, TB was off like a Red Rocket up the hill on his way back to the Mountains, leaving us to wind our way back to Spencer & off up the different route home
I was surprised at the quietness of the traffic we encountered all day , we saw a few schmick looking bikes going the opposite way & a few that passed us on the run north, but not a great deal of traffic in general which added to the enjoyment of the day I think

We also had a customary stop off at Laguna for another cold beverage before the run back to the Lake.

All up I clocked 360ks on the Super Commuter & on Knobbies

Here is a link to the GPS Plot of todays ride,

I had an excellent day on the bike today. I will do a full report tomorrow sometime but i have to say one thing now.

How good is my KLR for these types of rides, granpa’s armchair that thing. I am going to order my new tweed riding jacket with leather elbow pads tomorrow and grab a pipe while I am out

Nah seriously for something that didn’t come out of the Yamaha factory it still is a really good bike. (nothing a can of blue paint and a couple of Yammie stickers wont fix :P )

Firstly thanks to Kylie for putting this ride on, I still prefer the dirt as does my bike but as I said to Boony any ride is better then no ride and this one was great.

Yes Kylie you need to lead your rides sorry  You did well and rolled along at a good pace. The mix up at the corner of Bumble hill and greta rd well that happens and no harm came from it.

I rode the Beags machine and again am left speechless  I had a ride on Dan’s new bike its ok

I left home at around 5.30ish this morning and changed my mind at every intersection  my plan changed 6 times on where and how I was going to get there and where I would meet them. I ended going up the Putty rd and when I came back into phone range Dan rang (I had the blue tooth in my helmet) and was fishing as to where I was and if I was going to meet them. I gave nothing away  After I got of the phone I changed my mind and ripped across to Broke then towards Cessnock over the back of Bellbird onto sandy creek rd and to Freemans to fuel for the 2nd time and it was only just 8.30  I went up the road a couple of kays and lay waiting :P The trio went past and I set of after them and stalled my bike  Got it started and wooooosshh of I went blew past Beags and KD. As I lined Dan up he was approaching a sweeping right hander onto a bridge, I had maybe 50km/hr on him and he tightened the corner so I went around the outside  (he is no better on that Kawasaki then the Yamaha  ) For the next 15kms I kept playing hide and seek with them
We stopped and chatted and of we went, the rest Kylie covered. After I left them I realised I had an arse a baboon would have been proud of the remaining Klms home went well and trouble free. I did 525kms for the day and changed the oil yesterday and will do it again tomorrow.
I have some photos but cant find my cable  later ;)
Yes Beags rode the fiddy and he did well even if he still rode it like he was driving miss daisy  KD always crusing ;) Dan needs a tweet jacket and a smoking pipe for the grandpa mobile big gay green thing

Will sort the photos, how about johnny tripper at the pub  :P

    great report people. :)

Although tar is not my preferred option I suppose being out on your bike(or something that resembles a dirt bike) with a couple of your best mates is really hard to beat. :) beats being on the ride on like i was and watching the tin lids whilst she who must be obeyed was at work. :(

Just makes me more dettermin to put the 400 back together and get it ready for the dungrog ride.

well done on the ride :cheer:

some video would have been good.
cmon eagle get with the program :woohoo:

    cheer

The day dawned with clear skies and it had that feeling about it that it was going to be a warm day. Didn’t matter that it was going to be hot cause I was keen to get out on pops armchair for a ride. Eagle was going to be at our place by 8:15 and we were going to meet TB somewhere on the way.
Kylie and me were out in the shed getting ready and I said “where do you reckon TB waould be meeting us?” Kylie was sure that he would be at our place and ride out with us. I wasn’t so sure so I sent TB a text to see if he was awake or what. I got a text back fairly quick and I thought well I will give him a call at home. I rang TB’s place and spoke to Sal who said that he had left at about 6.00 that morning????? So I gave the big fella a call on his mobile. Yep sure enough he was already out and told me he had gone to Singleton and was going to see a mate and he would catch up with us somewhere. No worries I thought he would be somewhere.
Eagle arrived at our place by this time and he had a look at the armchair while we finished getting ready. We left by 8:25 and stopped at the servo at Freemans Waterhole to get a couple of chocolate bars for the trip.
We were cruising towards Cooranbong at a nice pace – there was no real hurry to be anywhere and everyone was enjoying the ride. I was leading cause Kylie didn’t want to? And Eagle was riding sweep. Nice and cruisy was the pace.
    THEN IT HAPPENED………
I wasn’t paying to much attention, as I was just enjoying the scenery and riding. Then I hear this noise coming behind me, it sounded like a guided missile or was it a freight train???
No, it was a XR650 at full noise, it came past me on a corner like a ballistic missile, it passed me and kept going, if it was however a secret government missile, it missed its trajectory. The red missile was certainly peddling. As soon as it went passed me it was gone again. (Yes I knew it was TB) I was thinking to myself that he would be parked on the side of the road soon enough and we would stop to say gidday. However TB was never around the next corner or the next????
    WTF
Then I started thinking, did I actually see TB on the red missile of tyre shredding destruction? Or was it just my mind playing tricks?
We kept on riding and got to Cooranbong, I put the blinker on and turned left down a road towards Morisset, thinking that I was going the way that Kylie had planned. Then I heard the DR bearing down on me. How Kylie can still ride a bike, yet flap her arms around like a crazy women (think of the cat lady on the Simpsons to get the idea) is beyond me. (although unlike the cat lady on the Simpsons, there was no moggies being thrown).
After my error in route was quickly discussed and some talk of who should be leading was completed we turned around and headed in the right direction.
We continued along the “correct” route towards Morisset. There was no sign of the red missile again and this had me thinking again of how I must have been wrong before.
We rode through the round-a-bout at Morisset and continued along towards the Hue Hue Road. It was before we reached Hue Hue Road that I caught the site of the red missile of mass destruction heading my way again. It rounded me up again and passed at the speed of 1000 crack addict gazelles. The missile then rejoined the group and we rode along onto the Hue Hue Road. After turning I stopped to say gidday to TB and to check how my other riding buddies were travelling. I used the opportunity to have a smoke as well.
We soon headed off again enjoying the ride and the scenery. I was totally enjoying my new bike even though TB was making reference to me now having a impotence problem (cause the KLR is supposedly an old mans bike?????)
There where a few photos taken along the way with TB going ahead of everyone and getting some snaps of us coming through the corners. I decided to get the camera out and get some pics as well as I was riding along.
I decided to see what the armchair could so wheelie wise and put the big girl up on the back wheel, not a real could idea when the front end is about 1 metre wide. You cant really see past it.
Our first stop was for a drink and for some fuel for those that needed it. Pops armchair didn’t need fuel (ALL DAY) when you’ve got the fuel capacity of a Toyota Cressida you get a decent range.
With our drink and break done we were off again.
There were a few bike swaps along the way, so everyone got a go on something different. Eagle rode the fiddy for a fair while which he liked, Eagle also rode the armchair which I think he liked as well.
The ride down to Wisemans was very enjoyable, the road is in good condition and the curves are fun.
We made it to the ferry at Wisemans and didn’t have to wait long, the ferry was there waiting for us. We boarded the ferry (and no we didn’t pay the ferryman) and we got to Wisemans Ferry pub by 11:30. Straight in and ordered lunch and got some drinks. We were lucky that we had beaten the lunchtime crowd and we got our lunch fairly quickly.
We had lunch and the heat was starting to be felt. I don’t think anyone was real keen to put their jackets back on for the ride home.
TB left us at Wisemans and he headed for home by this stage of the day he had done around 400km.
Kylie, Eagle and me headed out of Wisemans but we were not so lucky this time with the ferry. It had just left out side of the river, so we found a space in the shade and waited. We got on the ferry and it was stinking hot in the sun.

Lucky the river isn’t that wide and we were soon across and could get some air through our jackets again.
Kylie and Eagle swapped bikes and we kept on motoring. The ride back was good but man it was hot. We stopped for fuel again and a cold drink.
Our next stop was Laguna wine bar for the customary ride beer. From Laguna we were on the home stretch.
We said goodbye to Eagle near the turn off to home and went our separate ways. Kylie and me arrived home at around 4:00pm got changed and went and picked up the kids.

I really enjoyed the ride and the company was great. Thankyou to Kylie, Eagle and TB for coming along on this ride.
Next time we do it we might go the other way and go through the Watties and St Albans, I want to take the armchair on the dirt and see how it goes.
