Thought i would share this footage of my speedway racing days. This was one of the more fun classes that i raced. It was called cannonball. Basically you took any car you wanted, decked it out ie. rollcage, harnesses etc and off you go. Not to many rules other than the green flag ment go and the chequered flag ment finish and how you got there was your problem. Contact was allowed. you could spin cars out, put them in the wall or whatever it took to finish. In the early days cars had air compressors fitted that shot water cannons and they usually followed this up with flour bombs. The first car i rode in was a HQ wagon with 5 seats and a 427 chev motor running mud tyres. Still couldnt get traction. Then rules started to come in and tightened the safety aspect right up.
My car is the flouro pink HQ wagon and the good wife is the passenger. She actually raced it a few times as well in the female class.

Yep, you could have the fastest, best looking car and get put into the fence. It was basically a race of survival and if you stayed out of most of the barging and looked after your radiator you done alright.
Cant remember exactly but it was a second or third place.
January 12, 2010 at 9:40 am #167998I raced the shitbox for a while when JAK went to WA to live for a while.
One evening we bombed out and didnt make the final race. By some sort of miracle the car appeared on the track minus me (the driver), i thought i was having an out of body experience. Nah, one of JAK’s mates bribed the officals and got on the track, crashed the car into the wall and wrote it off. Then had the nerve to say it handled like shit.January 12, 2010 at 10:06 am #168033Looked like a couple of old chargers were amongst that group  You wouldnt have been doing that to em if you knew how much theyd be worth in 15 years

January 12, 2010 at 10:14 am #167999There used to be a bloke with one arm driving an old valiant. Funny to watch when she started to tank slap.
