Hi,
Just easing back into work (not) and surfing the net for a forum that has like minded riders…. I think I found the right type of site.
Firstly, don’t hold it against me but I a girl getting into dirt bike riding. I live in Hornsby, NSW and have a Honda CRF230L(the only one that a 5f2in could reach the ground). I also do rode rides on my BMW 650GS. As you can see I’m having my mid life crisis in my early 40’s.
I’ve been hitting the trails on the Central Coast (Parmdale) and have completed the one day trailbike Watagan course. Got through the day but lost count on the number of times I fell off.
I’m looking for other trailbike riders of similar experience that are happy to hit the bush. I don’t like it when I’m riding with far to experience riders as I feel I’m holding them back and I stress out.
I’m in training for a big ride in April from Perth the Airlie Beach. 16days – 5400km on dirt and sand. Hoping to head up to Stockton in next 2 weeks to get some sand experience… after reading some tips on sand riding I think its going to be fun. At least it’s soft when I fall off.
Hope to meet some like minded riders… especially if there are any girls out there.
January 13, 2010 at 11:47 pm #168138Hi Katgirl and welcome. We do a couple of rides every year that suit everybody and all skill levels but by the time you get back from the 16 day ride you will be a Dakar rider
I am sure Kylie will say hi when she gets on, we will have to get a dual sport ride going shortly so you get get the bemmer outTB
January 13, 2010 at 11:55 pm #168144Thanks Trailboss for your quick reply. I’m looking forward to hooking up. I suspect after the 16day ride my skills will be there to keep up with the more experienced riders….. I’m really throwing myself in the deep end but I know I will survive. I’ll just have a few bumps and bruises to manage.
January 14, 2010 at 12:04 am #168145Yeah thats the deep end for sure  but hey I like the “take a mouth full and chew like hell mentality” Get heaps of pictures and I will send you some Old Bull stickers for your bike for the big ride if you would like. (OBT across Australia  )
You will need to PM me your address for the stickersTB
January 14, 2010 at 12:19 am #168146G’day Katgirl nice to make your virtual acquaintaince, nothing wrong with midlife crisis or going through a second childhood if it involves bikes, I’ve been having my original childhood for a while now (40+ years) with bikes.
you’ll have fun on the big trans-island ride, nothing like the open road with mates and your bike, it’s a grand country and no better way to see it.
Any time on a bike is better than no time on a bike that’s for sure.

AnonymousHi Katgirl and welcome to OBT.
This is a great forum for getting advice and meeting up with other riders. We don’t have too many women on the site but all the guys tolerate us of the fairer sex really well.
I am from the Newcastle area and we do lots of riding in the Watagan Mountains. There are always rides being posted up so just either keep checking or post your own ride up.
We do some other types of rides too. Recently we rode down to Wisemans Ferry with a couple of us on motards, one on a trail bike and one on a dual sport. It was all road but we still had fun. TB is running a motard ride this weekend which you might be interested in.
Wow a 5400km trip. I envy you. It sounds great.
Hope to ride with you sometime.
January 14, 2010 at 3:14 am #168139Welcome KatGirl!
i believe you have found the right site! :woohoo: OBT rule of thumb is no one is left behind and it not how fast you can get there it’s how much fun you had getting there!
i’m sure if you can hook up on a ride that Kylie is on you will be more than well looked after.
maybe after your mammoth ( deep end is an understatement  ) trek across Oz
you can join one of the other members that did the Aust. rally last year, when they do the rally next
don’t worry about holding up any of the ‘faster’ riders, i don’t !!, but i guess i’m too big to just go around or over if i’m in the road   :silly: :silly: :silly:

just a thought, if later on you would be looking for a slight upgrade see if you can find a Honda SL250 (there is only 1 on bike point ATM
)
it is basically the same configuration as the CRF 230 which started life as an SL230 anyway, however the SL 230 had better brakes and a full stainless exhaust system ( over the 1st run of CRF 230). and a little known and very under rated bike.
the current CRF 230 is the same as what the SL230 was, disc rear instead of drum that they started with, however i can not remember if the current 230 has the stainless exhaust or not.
January 14, 2010 at 3:54 am #168157Welcome to the site KatGirl. You’ll get a good laugh, good advice, not so good advice (Moto), meet great people and go on all sorts of excellent rides on here.
Cheers
January 14, 2010 at 5:12 am #168158Thanks xy-transit for your welcome note and your advice on the upgrade. Will keep a look out.

There is a member named Moto, he lives near the dunes and can offer advise and experience in going face first into the sand.
If you can catch him on a day that isn’t raining, after a night on a box of beer, fresh tyres, clean air filter, oil and water he may offer his services .
He’s also bound to make you feel more then capable on a bike.January 14, 2010 at 8:41 am #168171Nice one Diddel

January 14, 2010 at 11:40 am #168184Welcome Katgirl
When we ride we start as a group and finish as a group and whatever happens in between is fun regardless of what speed you travel at.
Enjoy the site and don’t be shy to ask for advice as this is the greatest dirt bike resource in the whole country. (Same giant country you plan to ride across)
