So with an open invite to Mal 5.1’s motorcycle haven Salina and I packed the kids and their bikes and of we went (next time we leave on my schedule not Sal’s  ) Half the bloody day wasted

Once at Mal’s we had a quick chin wag and unloaded the bikes

I jumped on Mal’s tractor, being and experienced tractor pilot I slashed 3 tracks in for the kids but that soon turned out a play ground for the big kids

    P1270371640x480.jpg

I took Kieran out for a spin on the quad to show him the track as he hadn’t ridden the XR70 before and was a tad nervous. Little bugger drove me back, god its a sign of the times

Just after lunch Mal and I tucked over the back and he showed me sweet practice loop he has

We returned to the new front paddock track but Kieran complained Mal was holding him up and was all over the place when Kieran was passing him as seen below he had to go right around the outside as Mal was ignoring the waving blue flag

TB; how did you like the auto clutch on Mals Husky? Same bike as the auto clutch thread isn’t it?

Oh, that red jerry can on the trailer might have some water in it now

I enjoyed the ride Moto and as we are planning the purchase of a new bike in the later half of this year (the XR is staying, it will always be here) I rode it with particular interest as I have always liked them.

I was expecting more from the engine performance wise it seemed to for me sign of up the top to early. Everyone raves about 300 smokers and their power but I felt a little disappointed.

I loved the brakes and the whole sit on the bike feel, movement around the bike was easy and unrestricted. The steering is very responsive yet doesn’t display any head shake. All the controls are easy at hand and light the kick start that I have read can be hard to use seemed ok and the bike started very easy, as for it not having a magic button if you stall it on a snotty hill, well it doesn’t need one because of the rekulse

The rekulse was very confidence inspiring in the fact that when braking for a corner you didn’t have to worry at all about stalling the engine, think about that for a second as you scream into a corner that is one les thing to worry about doing (and a bloody big thing!!) you can just hit the brake as hard as you like and worry only about riding the bike. You can see in the 3rd video I fan the clutch as per normal everything besides the fact that you can stop and be idling in 1st gear clutch out and not moving is normal. Would I have one? Well today after riding the Husky I couldn’t imagine riding a smoker without one which begs the big question could I own a smoker?

Thanks again for the ride Mal

Yes its the same bike Wikd, I liked the rekulse on the 300 smoker but on my bike no not needed. I would only have a rekulse to prevent stalling the engine and the 650 has more then enough flywheel effect to prevent such a thing, yet the lighter flywheel of the smokers would have me wanting one.

The jerry can fark!! your as bad as Salina, shit how many rain drops do you figure could get down there   I will pour it in the XR mate no probs ;)

I was looking at the amount of water on the concrete under the eve of the building, that indicates the wind may have blown rain down the tube on the can and if there’s only a couple of Ltr of petrol then a little bit could be a problem.
Doesnt water settle in carburetor bowls and corrode stuff?

Just another 20 cents worth from me.

    Back on topic, sorry.
