I have found on ebay a CDI unit for my XR400 it is suppose to give more power extra 1000rpm without any other mods has anyone done this to there bike or is it just a load off crap the place is in the states $89 us they claim it gives the bike more power because it extends the rpm and changes the curve to give a better response what are your thoughts on this mod?

Without any other mods it’s probably not a great thing to be doing by itself

I have an fmf pipe and Iam thinking about replacing the headers with a fmf power bomb setup the bike has been used a fair bit since the top end was done but still goes fine it dosent burn oil but I think the clutch is nearly rooted but she just keeps on going its done over 11000ks and the top end new rings and valve seals was done over 5000ks ago the carby has a bigger main jet I think but I can’t remeber what size it is

An XR400 doesnt need to rev any higher I reckon, reving them wasnt their strong point IMO

So its not a good thing to do then maybe I should just replace the clutch with a new kit and see how that goes

Like TB said, XRs are thumpers, not screamers and you probably won’t develope any more power just valve bounce and hit a harmonic wall which may cause more damage than you want.

Thanks Tb I will have ago at that it looks easy when you know how to do it.Every time I do an oil change the oil looks very black after about 500 to 700ks is this because the clutch plates are wearing or is that just normal?
