Has anyone got an idea of how hard it is to replace fork seals on a 2009 Husaberg forks????? I think same as 2009/2010 KTM EXC Forks. :S
Not sure of what type of forks they are. Never pulled apart forks before, however looked on youtube at some vid’s how to do it. Seems an ok sorta job, but don’t have any specialist tools (seal fitting tools).
Is it worth the hassle considering costs are about $50 for seals and at least $40 for oil (if I don’t stuff the seals first go  ). Costs $190 to get whole job done at well regarded suspension specialist.
Any advice well regarded. Thanks
April 13, 2010 at 10:52 am #175943hey how are you ripnshred follow the vid step by step i have done mine a couple of times now after the first time it gets easier and its cheaper the only thing to make sure of is what wieght oil and how much in each fork and how far from the top of your fork, but this will be in your manual but after you do it once you will kick your self you paid someone else to do it before is it the rockymountain atv/mc site video?? i found this one very easy to follow there were 2 vids one to take them apart and one to put them back together
April 16, 2010 at 10:02 pm #175955Success!
Watched the rockymountain vid on youtube about 10 times, got me one of them seal driver tools, some seals and oil and headed to the shed.
After a very nervous start, got the first leg done in no time. Refitted and looked at it and thought yep. You the man!
!!!! …………. Shit, forgot to refit the plastic protector. Removed again to fix mistake. Refit All Good. The other side took hardly anytime to do. :cheer:
Made up a oil level tool out of a bit of fuel hose and a syringe from the chemist. The look at you weird when you ask for a really big syringe!
I am very surprised how easy it really is for just a fork seal change. Nothin to it. Keep it clean and well laid out and ya laughing. Dunno about a full strip down, maybe one day. :woohoo:
I kept the old seals and got the number off them. Gunna try to match them up at the local bearing shop. Should be able to get them significantly cheaper.
April 16, 2010 at 10:12 pm #176289Well done Ripnshred, you can come and do mine now
Just joking but I was thinking of changing the left seal today before our ride tomorrow. I have done them a number of times and have even gone to extent of making the split slide hammer tool for replacing the bush and seal. Also have an oil level gauge made out of a squirty bottle with a long tube connected. Works a treat :woohoo:
Cheers

– I thought about making one too. Sutto’s can get them for $30 I’m told, but there’s a 4 week wait. I just bit the bullet and paid $70 for one. Pitty there’s so many different sizes.
April 17, 2010 at 6:47 am #176293see told ya ripnshred, and it will only get easier for you now i thought the rockymountain vid was excellent.
April 18, 2010 at 5:30 am #176333Where’d you get the seal driver tool from ripnshred?
April 19, 2010 at 11:26 am #176354Ballards. Very good quality.
Also got a couple of other tool type items, rang at 4pm Thur, $6 freight charge, received 10am Fri. Very happy. Had forks done that arvo, then didn’t ride on the weekend anyway!

May 9, 2010 at 10:19 pm #178501Apparently the KX450F fork seals are a better fit for the KTM/Husaberg forks and offer less friction too for anyone else considering this.
