I am looking at trading the KLX450 on a KLR650e 2008 i know sweet FA on this bike but on all the research i have done it looks like a really nice bike.

Any one have one or can comment on them?

    #176775

unfortunately corey, i dont think they will climb hills like an XR650

    i cant believe i said that :P

if i move north, i will be looking at something similar to get around on. i will be interested to hear your findings mate ;)

DanD has one, not sure of the model though. Depends on what you want to do with it. It’s no trail bike but it will go most anywhere (just a bit slower than you KLX) and are said to be reliable. I think there may even be a forum for them on http://www.advrider.com

The V-strom is a V twin whereas the KLR is a single cylinder if I’m not mistaken, and yes they are more expensive. Like I said, it depends on what you want to do with it, The V-Strom would be a fair bit heavier I think as it is more like my Transalp whereas the KLR is closer to an NX or Tenere.

While i probably wouldn’t be in the market for either (my idea of an ADV bike is an XR650) I know for sure the Suzuki is the one by which the others are measured now, and have ridden one and they’re very capable bikes.

165mm ground clearance for the v-strop???

we have speed humps bigger than that down here

more road than dual sport me thinks

Yep I’ve got one. Its an 08 model. I am happy with it, nice to ride on the road and capable enough for where I want to take it off the road.

The suspension on the rear is a tad soft but I have never jigged with the settings on it. They are not super quick off the mark, but can get up to speed without too much trouble.

Mine has been fitted with crash bars, a top box and I have bought a set of Andy Strapz Adventure bags for it (which I am still making up the racks for) so they are not fitted yet.

I want to get a set of pivot pegs and bar risers with a decent set of bars as well for it one day. That will be all that it needs to suit my needs.

That is a nice setup Dan for sure, those Andy Strapz bags are great mate but aren’t water proof ;)

The KLR is very cheap and will do the job they have a loyal following that they deserve. I looked but decided I wanted something with a little more zing no offence to anyone please. Something I could wheel with a bit more pace when on my own, a little more suspension travel etc I know with NX at time I feel I wiould like something a little more capable if youknow what I mean. Although may not be has comfortable as the KLR, V Strom and BMW.

That said I would buy a KTM 640 Adventure if they still made them, maybe a low mileage 2007 would sway me
