KTM Motorcycles To Be Bought By Bajaj For 90%
KTM have approached their major shareholder, Indian motorcycle manufacturer Bajaj, to increase their share-holding in the Austrian company from the current 30% to 90%. KTM are looking at selling their currently owned 60% for cash.
Bajaj have announced that they will buy up to 51% of the shares at this moment in KTM, giving them a majority share, and at a later stage increase their holdings to the 90%.
That would turn the Austrian motorcycle maker into an Indian brand…. The cash strapped KTM needed an influx of capital to remain competitive. Already Bajaj will be making KTM’s 125cc motorcycles. Despite turning a profit, KTM’s sales is down 16%.
Hmmm, wondered what that smell was as I passed a KTM the other day! Must have been the tandoori in the exhaust!

May 11, 2010 at 8:24 am #178759Would this be viewed as a good thing by the KTM rider community?

May 12, 2010 at 2:02 am #178816Is it just me or are all the KTM die hard riders very quiet on this thread, I mean I thought there would have been a lot more talk here regarding it. I have read on an overseas forum this morning a lot of for and against for the whole thing.
Will it make a difference, havent some of the bikes been produced there for sometime, I know a few of the popular engines have beenTB

They appear to have already done away with the PDS and replaced it with something that will work a little better.

To tell you the truth, I haven’t got a clue where any of the components are made, I know it is Austrian company but that doesn’t mean anything these days. Like golf clubs – 95% of brands and designs are made in 1 factory in china under different licenses/brand names – so a honda could be made in bangladesh  😆 😆

May 12, 2010 at 2:42 am #178853Just because the Indians will own a majority share,it wont necessarily mean that they will make KTM’s in India though. Considering the infastructure to produce them is already in place at other locations. It would cost a bomb to move operations dont you think?

LMAO……Also Harley Davidson has opened a manufacturing plant in India and I did read something last week that they are thinking of shuting down the main Plant in the US and move all major production over there, only a rumour at this stage.
