Ok, so I’m getting old and my eyesight is getting bad. I’m looking for advice on improving my vision. I tried glasses under over glases goggles at Wauchope but the glasses end up up jammed against my face and fogged up no matter what I did. Doing nothing just makes me crash more often and contacts and I dont go together as I can never get them off my finger into my eye. Riding just with glasses only seems dangerous and dust and mud just get through or destroy the glasses. Thanks to Nick I have found out about Goggleman an optometrist in Victoria that makes prescription goggle inserts that allow you to see clearly. Has anyone used these or do they have anything they are using which works?
July 6, 2010 at 7:12 am #183223Hi Snowy,
I did a recent ride at the Watagans with Scott OTG goggles fitted with a fan.
I put in a report about them, just to cut a long story short.
I had the same problem with my goggles and glasses so i bought a pair of single vision safety glasses with metal rims, Not the large plastic type.
I removed the side shields and they fit really well.
The fan in the goggles removes all the fogging which is great.
I thought about goggle man but if you remove your goggles, say when you stop or on a real snotty hill or just to have a look at your bike you can’t see.
Another advantage of having the safety glasses is that you can ride short distances without your goggles with no fear of a rock smashing your glasses.
Hope this helpsRebore
July 6, 2010 at 7:54 am #183224Hey rebore450, Goggle man or lazer eye surgery everything else sucks!! I have just ordered a set from Goggle man and will let you know how I go. I have not tried the safty glasses so cant comment. If lazer comes down a bit in price that will be my next move.
July 6, 2010 at 8:11 am #183227Thanks Rebore I will chase up the fan option. What you say about the safety glassses sounds good though as I prefer just to wear my prescription sunnies but am always cautious about a roosted rock smashing them. Did you get the safety glasses from an opometrist?

July 7, 2010 at 1:11 am #183235If your specs are made from polycarbonate they will not smash like cr39{plastic} or good old glass the other option is the goggle like specs called rec specs these are designed so you can fit rx prescriptions to they should fit in your helmet some blokes wear them surfing waves not the internet  go to opsm and ask what can the do for you
July 7, 2010 at 3:44 am #183232Hi Snowy,
I bought the safety glasses from the optometrist.
The fan is very good, exhaust with 3 position control, off, sensing, and on!
I believed it was originally developed for snow goggles.
I bought mine from Suttos.
Mal helped me!Rebore.
July 7, 2010 at 3:50 am #183230G’day Boulder,
I am interested to know how the Goggle Man set up goes.
I am new to having to wear glasses while riding and what i have now works really well.
I agree with the lazer comment, have a mate who just had it done.
He says it is great but i don’t have the 6.5K to get it done.
If i did have a spare 6.5K i would probably spend it on a new bike!Rebore.
July 7, 2010 at 7:55 am #183279any one got some prices on all this stuff, just out of curiosity??
July 7, 2010 at 8:20 am #183318The quote I got from goggleman fo an insert that fits flush against the inside of your goggles is around $180 for an average type prescription to $270 for a relly complex one. The insert can be removed and used in another set of goggles if needed.
July 7, 2010 at 8:22 am #183321Their web site is http://www.goggleman.com.au if you want to see what they do.
July 7, 2010 at 9:47 am #183225I use Over the glasses goggles and Quick Strap release system and out of all i have tried this works well. If you get stuck in slow snotty stuff just flick em off and use you glasses, with practice can get them back on on the fly no worries
July 7, 2010 at 10:08 am #183326Hey EC300 good advice there mate, how about an intro? appears you are another one those fine upstanding Spanish Marque riders welcome to the site

July 8, 2010 at 1:01 am #183226G’Day Menace,
Pricing on the Scott OTG with fan was $129.00 but i did get the OBT discount. :cheer:
The perscription safety glasses cost me abot $350.00 but as they can also be used for my work i can claim this back on tax.
When i looked into the Goggle Man lenses i think that they only fit certain goggles
So this may be an added expense if your goggles don’t suit :unsure:Rebore

AnonymousI have tried the lot (except laser) and have settled for this. The half visor protects the glasses and keeps out most of the dust (surprisingly)and rain.
If it fogs it is just a matte of flipping the visor up and riding with glasses alone. It works for me.
old al.
OK, Having trouble loading a picture. It is a Vemar helmet with a half visor. Will keep trying.
