Went to Bike Territory on the weekend and the EnduroX track now has a suspension bridge and a teeter totter for those that feel they should enter Romaniacs but just don’t have the coin.
The entry looks like this
The exit like this
The pivot point is only around waist high so not too bad if you fall off. The disconcerting part is the width. No way you can put your feet down if you get a little wobble.
Anyway the boys were waiting anxiously for me to have a go as I was the only teeter totter virgin on this trip. Got there early and straight on before anyone could pull out a camera. Thank God I did because I got to here
Everything began to wobble and straight off the side I went. Not exactly sure how I landed but I remember looking up just as my bike fell through the complete summersault and land momentarily upside down on its seat and handlebars. All in slow motion of course so only the pride was damaged.
Next go. Obviously the cameras are out by now with great disappointment amongst the viewing vultures that they weren’t out earlier. Was a little rattled now but new there was no option but go again.
First sign of balance loss and I’m out of there while the going is good.
So whilst safe the second attempt was no better and the expectations of another spectacular crash were building in the crowd.
Third attempt
I must weigh more than I thought
Finally success. Anyway I made it another two times after that just to prove it wasn’t luck. Definitely wouldn’t say I’ve got it nailed yet. It scares the crap out of me every time I go there. Have a fair bit more respect for the romaniacs now when they go over one that is much higher and ends on a floating platform that leads to another one.
By comparison the suspension bridge is easy. Just need to stay in the middle and ignore the swaying. It is also only a couple of foot off the ground so if the worst happens you just ride off the side.

August 10, 2010 at 12:13 am #185592Nice Bundy. They make it look easy on Romaniacs. It’s good to know how hard and taunting it is. I was thinking of building one for a bit fun but a bit biggier than that. Maybe not so big now.
Is they key a bit of momentum, a bit of balance and a lot of arse puckering? I have the arse puckering covered in those situations.
Thanks for the pics.
August 10, 2010 at 12:24 am #185595There are two parts. The first is where you look. If you look just in front you are doomed. You have to look at the very end or you won’t make it. The other part is getting the bloody thing to come down. You need a fast walking pace to get up there then you have to clutch it and slow down whilst you wait for the thing to pivot and come down. This one is set up with the pivot slightly off centre. This makes it come back after you get off and it also means it doesn’t slam down with you on it as you go over the pivot.
If you ride too slow off this one it will kick your arse up as once the front tyre is off the see saw starts resetting itself. Needless to say I have not had that problem. By the time it comes down I am that keen to get off I am out of there like a shot.
You can ride up it at a quicker pace and just launch off the end. Just means a flat landing, but not too bad from that height.
Part of the issue with this one is whilst it is 3 logs wide, the outside logs are bigger creating a channel. Whilst this is good in that it sort of locks you in it also sits in the back of your mind that it is very narrow as well.
I think if it was me maybe I’d build one that was wide enough to put you feet down. This would get more people on and more people stacking because if it was a little higher and steeper if you stop you would slide back down anyway.
And yes the puckering does come naturally doesn’t it!
August 10, 2010 at 12:27 am #185590The bridge is only a hassle if you follow somebody else on to it. Two together or even going on too soon after the last bloke gets off makes it a bit interesting.
August 10, 2010 at 2:05 am #185596I didn’t think of the pivot been off centre for a reset.
Good description mate. I’ll try and remember all that if I get a go on one.
Might go and see what’s floating around the shed. :woohoo:
August 10, 2010 at 2:12 am #185598That’s awesome Bundy, I hadn’t thought of the of set centre either  I reckon we will do an Old Bull ride weekend out there next year without fail
Will talk about it later
Thanks for sharing the pictures and the report mate

It’s not me Ecks. I just suffer badly from peer pressure. If my mates can do it and are giving me cheek then what else can I do. Apparently the next ambition for Bike Territory is an Erzburg Track. Not sure when it is planned but I have seen where and will post of the pictures of me not making it.

No worries TB, an OBT weekend would be good. The other good news is the teeter totter is in view of the quarters so the less brave can sit back with a beer and laugh at the more brave but less fortunate when they have a crack.

Best option is to test it with say two big people (similar weight to bike and person) before fixing final pivot. I’m not exactly sure as I didn’t have anything to do with the construction but I think it is only a matter of inches off centre. Just post up the pictures of the first try though.
August 10, 2010 at 8:39 am #185591That is great roy should be a lot of fun when we go there next. I liked the endurocross track and these two obstacles will be great fun. The rut in the middle was the first thing that caught my attention. Im sure that i will be able to remove it from my mind as i attempt it… I hope! Great story Roy. Hey can the Moree motorcycle club get a lend of the bridge and the teeter totter to cover the flood water at pony x
