on the epic Glenmaggie ride i had pinch flats. ended up 2 fronts and one rear
i think i remember somewhere that one brand of rim could be more prone to pinch flats to another…
is there any factual truth to this??
the 640 has DID rims, i noticed most on the same rise would have had Excel, and had no problems riding over the same rocks etc. as i did with less pressure than i was..
August 18, 2010 at 1:50 am #186132You using the ultra heavy duty tubes Drew?
August 18, 2010 at 1:57 am #186134Drew I have DID rims on the 650 and have never had a pinch flat EVER.
I have only ever had one flat and that was a hole through the side wall of a brand new tyre (12km’s old).
I also run ultra heavy duty tubes and tend to steer around sharp looking rocks.August 18, 2010 at 2:14 am #186135well i wasn’t running heavy duty tubes, the first front flat was replaced with a Kenda heavy duty i was carrying, it was flat also by the time i got back to the van.. i ordered these over the phone, when they arrived i thought to my self they aren’t much better than a STD. tube..
i will be ordering some UHD tubes next pension day;)
August 18, 2010 at 2:19 am #186138ARe you sure they are pinch flats and there isn’t something sharp on the rim?

Was only inflated with a can of finny leak or the likes I read. So not knowing the pressure you had in it would make it hard to say why you got a second flat. Maybe you pinched the tube when fitting or like Mick said there is something in there causing the flat.

Bridgestone or Michelin ULTRA heavy duty tubes mate, Sutto’s has the Michelin’s on special if that helps
You could get away with a little more pressure then most as well Drew being the fuller Aussie male

August 18, 2010 at 2:35 am #186140that is something i’ll make sure of Mick when the tubes turn up and i fit them

now that you have reminded me, the first flat could have been caused by a broken spoke.
however i got a flat with the front at Wombat last December and just assumes it was a pinch flat, as i could not find anything in the tyre or rim when i replaced the tube..
August 18, 2010 at 2:44 am #186142the rear was the one i used the motul brand compressor in a can on

the front was done with the camper’s 12v jobby.
yeah thanks TB, i was going to ring Suttos’ thursday.

 :cheer:
😆 that’s the conclusion i’d come to as well, by the time i got back to the van.a big bike and a heavy rider was what i thought was most of the difference between the other rider/bike combos and I 😆
August 18, 2010 at 7:17 am #186145make sure you clean and dry the rims drew. at least the front as you will have to replace my temporary rim tape job. it probably lasted 2 minutes
yeah, the first one was a broke spoke, i remember seeing Aido licking the nipple
and check the rest of the spokes by tapping them with the spoke spanner. you will hear the dull ones. give the m a nip up till they ‘ting’
