October 25, 2010 at 8:15 am #189563Just use your kick starter to get it going Boony
October 25, 2010 at 8:38 am #189569To save a few bucks you could just ride at the Cells, then there is always a hill to clutch start her.
Sorry Boony, being an XR rider I have no idea about bike batteries.
October 25, 2010 at 8:42 am #189564Boony check with OWL02 he just replaced his.. Mal hooked him up from Suttos and he also got a kick arse charger too…
October 25, 2010 at 8:58 am #189571I’ve been looking into this too Boony and from what I’ve been reading a good quality gel battery is the go(yuasa seem the best) but the key seems to be keeping it hooked up to a battery charger/ maintainer with some people having batteries last up to 8 years.
I have no experiance in this it’s just what I have red but it does seem DRZ standard batteries are probe to faliure.
October 25, 2010 at 9:07 am #189572I’m with Mick, what the hell is a battered battery doing on a dirtbike, do you have a horn as well Boony?
:whistle:October 25, 2010 at 9:30 am #189573Well one of the things that was dead on my KLX when i got it was the Battery but i have a kick starter LMAO
I looked at every which battery out there from the most expensive around $180 down to the $49 and when looking at them they all come with 12 months warranty but the $49 had 130CCA compaired to the expencive 110CCA so i hit ebay and put the $49 job in the girl.
I also keep it plugged in when it is in the shed to a trickle charger to keeps it life.

October 25, 2010 at 9:50 am #189574Smurf19 has bought a kickstarter kit for his DRZ.
im sure he said it was under $400, but i cant remember….
he promised me he would do a “how to” about the fitting as i had expressed Boonys earlier interest in the idea.
the lazy bugger hasnt fitted it yet…obviously!
otherwise, go buy a solar panel and tape it to the bottom of your skid plate Boony, it should see enough sunshine to charge it ‘on the go’

October 25, 2010 at 7:59 pm #189604I posted this last night but it disappeared.
Batteries in Dirt bikes get a bit of a flogging I reckon so it is probably not worth getting the expensive ones. I don’t know what type is in mine but it’s the one that was in it when I bought it new so it’s 3 years old and no problems. It did go flat on me last year while sitting in the shed for months on end while I was working overseas but after starting it and running around the block it was fine again. At $49 bucks you can afford to replace it every year if you want to.
Or you can be a goose like me and fork out $200 for a special Husaberg battery
 Seems I posted in another thread. :silly:
October 25, 2010 at 8:10 pm #189609Yeah I probably could try the old charge her up and go, but I would rather have the peace of mind knowing she has a new battery in her until I get the kick start organised, polly400 has on his bike and I should have knicked it on the last cells ride       I will also be looking into a trickle charger as well.

Most important thing boony, when you get your new battery, put it straight on the charger for a full 24hrs(ctek) http://www.batteriesdirect.com.au/shop/product/10571/xs4003.html, so that it gets a complete and full charge. Batteries these days need chargers which cycle not just punch it in. This way the plates will be at there max and will last longer.
cheers hatto
October 26, 2010 at 4:37 am #189618Ok, she lives again. $53.00 for a bees knees battery,$83.00 for a trick trickle charger, hard wired to the bike and jumper leads for the trailand all that stuff, and I thinking i`m pretty impresive right up until Steve from CYCLETUNE Tamworth 67625579 tells me to bring the bike in to see if sheez charging ok. Turns out there was a dodgy standard connector from the regulator that would intermittently let the old girl charge and then let nothing happen.(Could have save a fiddy, but hey at least she`s got a new battery now).he fixed that problem and all is good. Thank you Steve from CYCLETUNE Tamworth 67625579.
Yep free plug for a top bussiness.
