A very good mate of mine called me tonight and told me he had seen a KTM690r for sale which he’s keen to look at, I told him to hold on and get the opinions of the Old Bulls first!!

He’s ridden a feast of powerful road bikes and we often rode together in the uk. So he can handle power !!

He got into MX in the uk and went well !

He moved to Oz and bought a KTM 200 and rode some tight stuff around Sydney. !

He then bought two R6’s with a mate and set them up as full on track bikes and did regular track days at eastern creek and Orion park!

Now he’s been thinking of getting something he can put motard wheels on and ride round Sydney, ride some weekend fire trail / singles then gear up for the long haul adventure trip. ( I think me banging on about the Cameron corner ride has sown a seed!)

during our chat I told him about OBT and the rides on offer( high country, Buladehlah,Cameron ) and he strIght away said he needs an adventure bike.

He’s keen to join OBT and he’s a bloody top bloke so any thoughts on bike choice, what to look out for buying a 690 and advice would be great!

    Cheers

    Nick

MickP is in Hawaii and it appears to slack to give his good mates from old bull the time of day.

I saw a 690 put through it’s paces on the Sofala ride and it was a very impressive piece of work.

I reckon the KTM690 is the best* around for all the disciplines your mate wants to do Nickj and that demo Sutto rode has some extras and sounds the shit for sure

I certainly saw that bike do things on the Sofala ride that my XR650 wouldn’t do, then again the XR could probably do it to with Sutto at the controls

They certainly are a horn looking bike.

After watching sutto on the sofala ride and riding Mickp’s, this seems like a bike that would suit his purpose well.
I still think it is one of the most ugly bikes around at the moment. But will probably be my next bike as well. :woohoo:

    Well,
I have done 200k the past two days at Sunny Corner, albeit a fair bit of the k`s were in a road run back to Capertee via Portland & Cullen Bullen the retreive a spare rear brake lever for a fellow rider.
I did however also have some fun zipping round the trails near the campsite sat morning, arvo and this mornong before coming home. There were some little singles linking the trails that I had a run on & I was pleasantly surprise at the handling of the bike.

The other guys that had a run also remarked that it feels surprisingly nimble & light despite it`s looks. The seemingly tight steering is a thing I got used too and on return home this evening I have put it up on the stand & it is free as a bird, TB reckons he was looking for a Damper at first

So far I am stoked with the choice of the 690 & reckon it should live up to every expectation I have for it as a true all rounder ;) Cant wait to fit the Touratech racks and other gear.

Hope to get a run in next weekend on some local trails & small singles with Jeffro to run the 690 & DRZ400 back to back to compare (if his shoulder is ok that is)

    More to come
