We have stayed at Stockton caravan park, kids liked it, its on the beach. They could ride their push bikes all over stockton and its a quick ferry ride into the heart of Newcastle which is good if its wet http://www1.newcastle.nsw.gov.au/stocktonbeach/

We have also stayed here at Anna Bay http://www.birubibeachcaravanpark.com.au/ it was ok

Neither are at Nelson Bay, close but I think its better

Birubi Beach is good as they have a pretty safe swimming beach for the little ones.

also have a look at http://www.onemilebeach.com.au

they have an awesome pool and playground area for hte kids, and you are only 10mins drive from Nelson Bay.

have a good time and make sure you take them to the toboggan run near Salamander Bay.

If that is the toboggan run I am thinking of (shiny metal half pipe thing about 1m off the ground that you slide down on a skid with a lever between your legs that works the brakes) don’t make a pact with your mates not to use the brakes. Not using the brakes results in cart leaving track. Cart leaving track results in pain.
