I have a 1979 IT400F with an XT500 rear wheel on it. This wheel has a cush drive, of which I’m not familiar with. There is about 3 – 4mm sideways movement when pushing on the sprocket, is this normal? There is no abnormal wear on the rear sprocket.

    HELP!

    Hi Rat

The movement is it side to side when you are looking at the wheel from the side or behind mate?

Sounds like bearings from the discription. The cush drive has a bearing in it as well as the wheel hub. Where do you live Rat?

Sorry was busy mate, is there any movement in the bearings. Is there a bearing in the cush hub and two in the wheel hub? What about a photo?

I’ll post some pics soon..how do I do that here? via photobucket?
Now ya done it! I just put it all together tonight with new brake shoes. I’ll get it apart and take a pic and as assembled. I dont think there was an extra bearing there.
    thanks

yep drum brakes. I bought it with it fitted..
Ive been on the trails without brakes and it was easy to ride, just didnt want to stop riding it!
Now with the brakes sorted, and a new pipe it should be better! I’m just worried about the extra movement of the sprocket.

Ive sorted the rear wheel on the iT400 a couple of days ago with a home made spacer. Now there is no sideways movement!! :woohoo:
