Hi all. I’m Steve from Gerringong.
Been off=bike for a long time.
Bought a postie a few months back for a junk mail run, and I’ve fallen in love all over again.
Now for a real bike!
Used to own various DT’s, then a TY175JC, then my pride and joy a Bultaco Alpina 350.
Being out of the loop for so long, I’ve lost track of models.
I’m after something that fills the same space as the Bultaco – tight, technical, pseudo-trialsy and road registerable.
Capacity not a big issue, new or second hand.

Can anybody tell me what I should be looking for?

Are you out there Tommy (Don)?

wr250 yamaha would be good if your not doing much road riding. but i think if you can get a ride on a few different bikes your best buying what you like best.preferably one desighned for the riding your going to do

My favourite riding is tight, obstacle strewn trails.

I will probably want to enter clubman trials, but dont want/need a trials bike.

Must be better performed on the road than my postie, but I wont commute or travel far.

does the wr250 have any particular advantage over the 450 as far as you are are concerned?

Weight would be the biggest difference between the 250 and 450( other than power) and if you want tight, technicak stuff then weight is your enemy.
Depends also whether you prefer 2t or 4t as to which bike to look at

the 250 is better in the real tight stuff just suggested it because the 450 goes fairly hard and i don t no how well you ride just getting back into it.if you can bludje a ride on both bikes the kato two strokes are good to if you like two strokes

You noticed I’m a two stroke man. I’ll look into the Kato’s (registerable in NSW?)

How do dealers react to requests for test rides from a 35 year licensed rider these days?

the exc s can be regestered in NSW if your a lite weight check out the 200 not a bike for every one but i loved it the 250 and 300 are good also

Well I’ve spent the last six weeks acquainting myself with the market, concentrating on WR’s and Katos.
Ended up with an immaculate 2002 xr250l with brand new knobbies.
Been going for local runs (mostly tar local laneways) trying to get myself up to speed to join in the Nowra run on sunday.
Biggest obstacle at the moment is the weather and the highway ride down to Nowra (on aforesaid new knobbies).
I’ll sign up properly if I’m going, otherwise I’m sure there will be something local on again soon.
